Buying High Milage 64 plate Octavia 1.6 Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Due to a new business venture, we are looking to get an Octavia Estate. I was originally looking at a 1.4 petrol, but these are not coming up in my price range (£8k)I have found a 1.6 diesel 64 plate estate with DSG  in my price range, and it looks great (seeing it person tomorrow), but it has done 104,000 miles. we are looking to do approx. 10-12k driving a year, mainly non motorway. Is there anything that I need to  look out for with these high mileage octavias?

Thanks in advance...

Nick

Generic advice as always worth following,

regular oil change using correct type

service history a must ( for me anyway )

one owner ? company or poss lease ?

hopefully owners of dsg 1.6 will follow with specific model engine advise

( remember if it sounds too good to be true........... !! )

1 owner and it seems full Skoda history.

Will check it out, but it seems to tick all boxes

Best check then for a box ticked if needed.

DSG Service Campaign '34H5' Software Update, check if required and done, and check what other Warranty Work has been required if any.

Then the Elephant in the room,

is it a 1.6TDI that is due 'The Fix' to remove the defeat device or not, has it been done, and if it has do you want it?

Make sure it's had the DSG service when it's supposed to (40k miles)

^^^

Does it not have a 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG (DQ200) so no 40,000 mile oil changes?

Ok, ok, ok. Well not too sure about any of those things.

It is the black edition so not sure what dsg it has. Think it is a 7 speed.

Also how do I check what has been done and if the fix has happened? Do I call Skoda with registration?

Doh, sorry saw Diesel and DSG and just assumed its a 6 speed wet (my excuse is on my screen the 1.6 and diesel are on different lines!!)

Call or Email to Skoda UK Cutomer Services, they used to have no trouble telling potential buyers of Warranty Work done and service record they knew of,

now become a bit crap at helping on occasions.

As to the DSG Service Campaign they should tell you if done or needs done.

So can a Skoda Main Dealership.

hi guys, called skoda who told me that all warranty things including something for the gearbox have been done. Also as it has done over 60k miles, it is out of warranty. Is it worth looking at the extended warranties?

Nick

Extended Skoda Warranty invaluable at least for the first 12 months of ownership.

Check out the Octavia section on the 1.6TDI DSG Fuel Consumption, it is not great.

Are you sure you want a dirty diesel that possibly gives poor economy?

Re the Skoda (extended) Used Car Warranty,

there are exclusions for some types of business uses,

Courier, Driving Instructor etc so check that out.

I wanted a petrol (1.4) but they are so rare on the ground in my price range in the new shape. Also the only way I can get an Octavia is if it is in black (yes, I married Batman)

ok guys, checked it out and loved it. Even my wife thought it looked really good. So we have decided to buy it. picking it up tomorrow morning and part exchanging my a class too. Engine sounded incredibly quiet inside and out. drove really well and just allround impressed.

on these 1.6tdi's, what is the tax (if any)?

Thanks again for your advice... Now looking at what upgrades I can now do - this coming from an old gti owner :-)

The only things it was lacking were what looks like front parking sensors

automatically folding mirrors

secret hidden floor in the boot (saw this on a youtube video)

or are these there and I am being an idiot???

Thanks

Nick
