Hi Guys, my first post, I'm new here :-)

 

I bought a nice low mileage 2007 Octavia II estate today with full history. After I had handed over my money and got it home I found out it has a BXE engine!

 

I've read much about these engines, mostly bad. The car runs well and everything is where it should be and works, it's a nice car.

 

Question, should I just move it on or gamble on it not putting a piston through the block?

I have a 2008 BXE with over 280k on the clock which has been mapped to 150 bhp in 2010..

It runs well even better that my wifes 04 bora with a quarter of the miles..

If you will read through forums searching for problems, you WILL FIND THEM. No one is usually saying the good stuff, so you will only find the bad things. If searching the car like that, you will not be able to find any. 

In the end it always comes down to how the car has been used and maintained and it will always be a race with luck.

 

I bought my car. It is exact same as yours and found out about blown gasket only when the winter came. I was unlucky, but after fixing it, the car has operated very nicely and reliably ever since.
