New Gear Gaitor Question

Featured Replies

Ordered a can holder to replace the ashtray but a previous owner has superglued the gaitor to the plastic insert, then glue that to the existing surround, and glued to two plastic parts together too.

Has anyone ordered a new gaitor off of ebay, and know whether they come attached to the plastic insert that gets wedged into the surround?

Any I have looked at on ebay don't show the underside and its hard to tell if they are stapled/glued to the plastic insert.

Cheers

I notice on this listing that lower down the page it says plastic piece is not included.

Aye, I assumed that meant the actual surround it sits in, but inside the gaitor base is a plastic insert, which it is stapled or glued onto, as opposed to being held on with a retaining ring.  Can't see how this would be reusable tbh, but don't want to assume it comes inside it.

When I bought one years ago for a similarly aged Polo, it was the same as TMD said, I needed to unstaple the plastic insert/frame and attached the new (leather) gaitor to the original insert/frame and gear knob.

Bugger it, I broke it trying to pry them apart which is when I realised it was superglued.

I'll nip into the dealer on Monday and see what they have.

I took it to mean the stapled bit of plastic. I think genuine gaiters come with the plastic piece already attached.
