Electronic Service Book

Featured Replies

How is everybody getting by with having an electronic (online) service record with Skoda and taking their car to an independent Audi/VW specialist for servicing?  My independent can't access the online service system with Skoda even though they have VAS (and VCDS) and say that they can update the software.

The issue is I have a new Superb 280 and it's 4 months old now.  I wanted an interim (3k miles) oil change using 504.00 long life oil.  Taking the car in a couple of days to France on holiday and wanted to take it with new oil now that the car is fully run in.  I know it is OTT but I love this car and want to look after it.  Also it will be driven at higher speeds than the UK ;) and so wanted to give it a best chance of having new oil etc etc.  The oil service has now been done I should add.

It is on variable servicing but come 12 months old I shall have it serviced at Skoda, will change to fixed serving then.

But I would like to record (other than just keeping the invoice) that it had this interim oil change.  Also when it is more then 3 years old and out of Skoda warranty I want to take it to the independent for servicing, I know them and friend of the family etc.  How will I keep the service record going as I can with my other car an Octavia 2 FL which has the old fashioned book they can stamp!:wondering:

When I purchased my car back in 2015 the dealer explained about the "new" electronic service record and said that an "old fashioned" Skoda service record booklet was also available if I wanted one, for a small (unspecified) additional cost.

504 oil is for Euro iv grade cars and I did not think it was long life oil either but I might be wrong.

OK, gotcha @BillyJim, thank you. I will look into this with my dealer then and order one up.  I am keen to have it serviced whilst it is in warranty at Skoda then take it away from them as the independent I trust allot more then the local dealers.  We live close together as I live in Cobham and Stoke'D'Abernon area.  Not sure where you take yours for servicing @BillyJim but I suspect we are perhaps using the same one or will do!:)

Tell me more.  I thought long life was simply 504.00 5W30 for a petrol and 507.00 5W30 for a diesel.  Same oil does both engines.  With the 280 I believe there is a different spec for fixed servicing, you can use 502.00 but I am only ever going to use the best stuff in this engine.

The supplying dealer gave me a top up oil Castrol to 504.00 spec.  Castrol online suggests that 504.00 5W30 correct oil etc.  Owner manual agrees with me as just checked to be sure I was right.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the oil spec for a 280 petrol please?

Are you somehow thinking that Long Life Oil suitable for Variable Servicing is superior because it can stay in the engine longer.

Because just a little bit more expensive than not Long Life oil!

VW's recommended Castrol / Quantum is in no way the 'Best Oil' or even the best Long Life Oil.

Total is not the 'Best OIl' for French Cars.  Just what suits French Manufacturers who purchase Billions of litres of it...

If you are doing Fixed Oil Filter Changes which you are doing Interim Oil / Filter changes then maybe buy the Correct Spec and good oil without it being Long Life,

because Long Life does not automatically mean Long Lived Engines.

Just that VW Group need OIls to suit business / fleet leasers.

Only because 504.00 is fully synthetic and I believe 502.00 is semi-synthetic.  I like to change the oil every 6 months anyway regardless of mileage.  The main family car does about 8K miles a year so an oil change roughly happens at 4K miles.  Maybe Castrol and Quantum oils are not the best oils but they are readily available.  I used to use Millers but this is hard to get hold of.  Not had any issues using Castrol or Millers I have to say.

One of my favourite oils was Motul but this is hard to get hold of as well.

What oil would you recommend @Awayoffski?

I presume you receive written invoices for your services.   I just keep them for history.

VW 502 00 is Full Synthetic OIl.

There are plenty of the correct spec readily available and from good oil producers, even with ASDA or COMMA on the containers.

Not some 'Own Brand Bean' producer..

Well it is just this one at the moment for an interim oil change. ;)

Keen to use an independent once the warranty has expired in 3 years.  I shall ask Skoda and purchase a service book, if I can.

Sorry to contradict but I think you may find that 507 00 is the correct spec oil for a Superb.

507.00 is for diesel engines.  504.00 (variable) or 502.00 (fixed interval) is the correct oil for petrol engines, which is what @RGKTSi has.

Apologies.  My mistake.
