cam belt change time again

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, Does the water pump need changing every 4 years with the timing belt or not? Had the belt kit and water pump done 4 years ago by local dealer.

For the small extra cost for the water pump its a no brainer for me to replace it with the cambelt as the water pump is driven by the cambelt.

Thanks Mikey.

For reference, Škoda charge £100 for the waterpump over and above the cambelt price.

Been quoted over £440 pounds at dealer (that includes free aux belt ), and £330 at local trusted garage using a Gates kit inc water pump.

I am being charged £385 by a local VAG specialist for complete cambelt kit and water pump change.  Skoda dealer price was £495.  For a laugh I asked for a quote from a local Halfords centre - £520!

i wouldn't trust halfords to change a light bulb on my car, Never mind a compete cam belt kit.

Someone I know had an old '02 plate Toyota Yaris a couple of years ago and it broke down outside Halfords with an electrical issue, so she pushed it into Halfords. They supposedly checked it out and told her that she needed a new battery, starter motor AND alternator and the total cost would be around £350 :o.

I told her to take it to my bro-in-laws garage instead so she did and he established that it was just the earth lead from the battery that had corroded through, so replaced that for her.

Total cost £40 !!!!!
