how much oil eat the engine 1.8 tsi ?

Featured Replies

anyoane know how much oil eat the engine 1.8 tsi for example every 1000 miles

The handbook says 0.5 ltrs to 1000 miles, but in reality this to much. if you are using more then this then try changing form a 5w30 fully synthetic oil (this is for long life or variable servicing) to 5w40 fully synthetic and fixed servicing.

The oil must meet VW's W502 for 5w40.

i used 5w30m and after 2 weeks  the oil level was on minimum after 215 miles ...im a litle bit worried the car is 11 plate and only 50000 miles

The first thing i would do (indeed have done) is an oil and filter change, get rid of the 5/30 and refill with 5/40 fully synthetic and see if the consumption improves.

Mine did, i've been using 5/40 since after a month after purchase. this week i've been on holiday in norfolk and done around 650 miles, topped up the oil before i left, checked it when i got home and not used a drop.

don't put that anywhere near the TSi it's way to thin and it will just burn it straight off , the TSi must use as minimum 5/30. 5/40 is defo the best to use and switch to fixed servicing (every 9200 miles or 12 months which ever occurs first)

was recomanded by skoda ....i was there for a travel check....i will call them monday morning

At that usage I would recommend getting a wet and a dry consumption test to measure exactly how much oil you're using. When I got to 1 litre per 300 miles I ended up needing replacement engine. Excessive oil use on these engines is common problem even at relatively low miles due to a design issue.

Depends on the engine.  Mine uses almost nothing - maybe half a dipstick every 10,000km.  Others chew through it.  There's no logic to it.

I would be really annoyed if I had to add more than 1 litre every 10,000km

I can see the Shell Helix Ultra is vw504.00, it is approved for Long Life 504.00 and will be ok. It should behave like a 30W when at operating temperatures. Are you in a particularly cold weather area?  The 0W when cold helps with cold temp circulation until at temp.

A 502.00 5W40 might help consumption a little but I am afraid 1litre in 215 miles sounds terminal.  How long have you had the car, who did you buy from?

There is a fairly regular trickle of this fault coming across this forum, if you search you will find others who have experienced the same thing and the outcomes. Eventually, the engine will fail from that amount of oil burning. I suppose it could be a turbo fault as well but more likely to be the dreaded ring problem.

There is an inventory of failures from this series of engine in these sticky threads with quite a bit of info scattered around. It is a very long thread  though.
