Fabia power steering light

Featured Replies

Hi,

First post here. Have a Fabia 1.4mpi 2001 year.

Had the car like 3 years, and the power steering light went on 1-2 times a year. Noticed that only in long straight rides. But no power steering loss.

So lately i have the light every day now. If the light turns on, the steering wheel wont go hard, actually a lot softer and easier to turn. Happened multiple times, so im not psycho :D

Checked battery and alternator voltages. All normal.

Fluid level is between MIN and MAX. Should be fine also.

Any thoughts?

Needs scanning for fault codes.

Yup, atm not possible but ill do it.

You can check the fuse strips on top of the battery for hairline cracks but other than that you're looking at a sensor or pump problem.

Ok, was driving today and car completely died on the road. Absolutely zero. No dashboard clock, mileage, nothing.

Thought the battery died. Got my friend to help, tried jumper cables, nothing. Tried friends battery, nothing. My battery voltage was 12,4 V. So not dead at all.

In the battery fuse box was one crack, green/yellow wire (ABS?) Replaced it with another 40A fuse. Still nothing. Then i completely removed all the fuses and terminals. Cleaned them with sandpaper and got them nice and tight.

And voila, it works!

No power steering light and no engine light, which also bothered me for years.

Tnx for the help :)

Nice one

By the way, if you haven't done it, it's well worth removing and cleaning the strut turret earth lead. It is common for this to cause a bad earth. Better to be preventative than have the car break down. Nice easy job.
