vrs Rear Disc Rusty

Featured Replies

Have had vrs for a while now , its the last of the fl model 2013.

Rear discs are showing section where disc is rusty and pad doesn't seem to grab it. pictures attached.

same for both rear discs.

Any advice as to the cause of this?  as i am going to change pads and discs soon.

Thanks.

They seem to be just susceptible to it. Combination of little braking, road salt, environment, disc quality....A lot seem to go that way from 3 or 4 years,  Mine was like that when I purchased at 5 years, 33k miles.

Your rear disc shields don't look fantastic either. Maybe worth while having a look at how secure they are before doing the discs and pads. Eventually they will corrode around the mounting points and either fall off or interfere with wheel rotation if partially dislodged.

When doing the brakes you should carefully clean up surfaces of built up dirt/brake dust/ corrosion and use a small amount of ceretec grease on the surfaces that allow the pad to move in and out.

There are two variants to the rear brakes too, bosch set up is 1KS / 1KT 272mm otherwise lucas I think is 1KP 282mm disc. Check before obtaining the parts and commencing job to prevent disappointment!

Mine was like this also at 50km when i purchased it.  Was thinking that the wrong pads were fitted at some stage that it wasn't grabbing the disc correctly.

Disc Shields seem to be of poor quality .... will give them a check over also.

I will measure the discs before i order new ones .

Seems to be a common problem on them..  The older octys didn't seem to suffer this problem.

Thanks for your help.
