Under Seat Storage Obstruction

Featured Replies

Apologies for members who frequent both Briskoda and YetiOwnersClub forums as this post is identical to the YetiOwnersClub post that I submitted about a week ago.

Ok so I have purchased a pair of under-seat storage boxes for my 2015 Monte Carlo from Superskoda. As it was a nice day I decided to have a go at fitting them. Unfortunately I have fallen at the first hurdleConfused !!

Starting on the passengers side I removed the two large torx screws securing the font of the seat and carefully laid it back supporting it on the back seat so as not to stretch the cables.

Unfortunately there is a large bunch of cables that come out of the under-seat loom and terminate at the inside corner of the seat in a large plug and small black box (see photos Passenger seat (Large).jpg and Box (Large).jpg attached).

I am not sure if the above black box is just a termination cover for the plug or if it contains electronics. Unfortunately the thickness of the loom means the chassis of the storage drawer will not locate in the two slots of the seat pan without dangerously distorting the plastic carrier.

Does anyone know what this cable is used for? There doesn't appear to be one under the drivers seat as can be seen from other photos.

It is located in a square hole and removes from the seat pan with a quarter turn and I could relocate it behind the carrier but don't know if it needs to be readily accessible as part of servicing or diagnostics or if it has something like an accelerometer or similar for tightening the seat belts.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Fozzie

Thanks Sad555,

I can certainly do that. However before doing so I wanted to ensure it was not some form of sensor e.g. accelerometer or similar that activated the seat belts, airbags or other safety item. Also was access by Skoda fitters as part of servicing or diagnostics required? If tucked behind the cage its not easy to access?

Many thanks

Fozzie

It certainly isn't a diagnostic port; that is under the dash.

I wonder if this LINK might help. It's in the Yeti Technical guides section......Well worth reading and it may help.

Hope so.........Tony

Thanks Great Yeti,

It was indeed that link that inspired me to fit my own seat boxes and have read through several times but there's no mention of the loom being in the way.

The Hood from the Yeti Owners Forum has kindly found a wiring loom diagram and I believe the plug might be either for the electric seat operation if specified or alternatively heated seats of which I have neither.

I think as no one is saying its a safety feature I'll just un-clip it and attach it to the back of the drawer carrier with a couple of cable ties as suggested by Sad555.

Many thanks for all your help

Fozzie

I fitted mine some years ago and can't recollect that cable,I have heated seats but not electric one but I wouldn't expect to see wiring for electric seats on the passengers side on a uk spec car.

My 63 plate Elegance has both front seats heated by electricity

But are they both moved by electric.?

This is the link kindly provided by The Hood http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/YET/year/2015/drive_standart/779/hg_ug/972/subcategory/972026/part_id/2540392/lang/e

I think the termination I can see under my seat is either 16 or 10 in the diagram. If you click on the links on the main website it takes you to a table which refers to seat heating for 16 but no real detail for 10.

No.  Didn't have the option as the car is pre-owned, but I think it's rather an expensive feature anyway.

Electric adjustment has only ever been available on the drivers seat, and a storage box can't be fitted under one of these.

Best value for money there is as you can micro adjust the seat, in particular the base angle can be set to suit me, whilst the normal seat never did fit me very well on my first Yeti company car. Specified it on my second yeti company car, and paid extra for it on my third Yeti which I have bought for myself, hopefully to keep into retirement for a bit.

I got mine as an ex demo with heated seats but not drivers  electric adjustable but if I was to get another car I would definitely  go for both options especially the electric adjustment as there a big height difference between me and shmbo
