Mud flaps

Mudflaps should help to prevent the 'sandblasted' affect on the black plastic trim.

Is that normal though? I expected them to be a bit rough but the lighter appearance is a bit disconcerting.

I'm surprised to see it on such a new car.

It happened on my 2008 Octavia Scout, but only after several years (the bumpers on that were painted to look like bare plastic though).

Our 2016 Octavia Scout (2 years old / 17,000 miles) which uses the same type of plastic as the Kodiaq is starting to go the same way.

I've just checked with Skoda UK customer services again this morning, still no date on the arrival of the mudflaps.

Apparently the dealer can submit a request on their own computer systems, which then updates them with dates etc. direct from the 'parts team'.

I think SuperSkoda have the revised design for the front flaps.

Note the A on the end of the part number. The originals didn't have this.

Yes, discussed here too, my dealer emailed me today to tell me the set I'd ordered have arrived...

Good to see Superskoda have the new ones too, I wonder if my email helped :D

Waste of money if you don't have the sportline with the painted lower trim. Even than you should consider carefuly because you need to cut into plastic trim to fit them. Cutting into the plastic means they were never fully incorporated into the design and never properly tested (like the door handles/trim). It's just asking for trouble in the long run.

Really? I think this post shows that the black non-painted plastic is as much (if not more) susceptible to damange from road rash.

Do you know for sure that the revised design (that has only just been released) still requires the plastic sill to be cut? I'd have hoped that Skoda have addressed this with the recent re-design.

I assumed this had been rectified. If it is still the case I will be returning the mudflaps to SuperSkoda!

These arrived. No mention of cutting on the instructions.

Thanks just ordered a pair for mine.

Nice, make sure you take plenty of pictures when you fit them!

This is what eventually happens if the earlier version of the mudflaps are fitted. Note the loose trim.

Somehow the mudflaps, over time, cause that piece of plastic trim to come loose...

Revised design fitted. Very easy although I did deviate from the instructions slightly.

Rears are just 4 torx screws which are removed and replaced with slightly longer screws. 3 of the screws are in the wheelarch and 1 underneath on each side.

The fronts are 2 torx screws and a plastic popper.

The torx screws are removed from the inside of the wheelarch.

And then replaced with the new longer screws, positioning the mudflap in place.

There is then a hole to be drilled which the plastic popper is pushed through. I cheated a little with this as I don't have a drill which would fit in without removing the wheel, so used a bradawl to push a hole through and then used one of the now removed shorter screws to make the joint, an idea inspired by  a post from someone else previously.

To be honest I think it would be fine with just the 2 screws which were already in.

There is no cutting and no clamp under the car on this design.

Result!

Glad to see that the revised design doesn't require cutting the car to pieces!

Quite why Skoda couldn't manage this the first time round will remain a mystery :D

Thanks for taking the pictures.

Cheers for the pics @Tumnuscat

Using silver screws does make it look a bit after market though, wonder why they didnt just use similar coloured ones to the flaps or have a cap on top.

The screws are japanned and not silver as the photos make out.

Ah i see, and how do you find they look, once fitted (assuming you've fitted your's)?

You don’t notice the screws when the flaps are fitted. The screws are the same as the ones you remove from the wheel arch , only a little longer.

@Kenny R, are you by any chance stood next to the car with your camera!? :D

I'm hoping for a low down image of the back of the front mudflap to see how far along the sill it sits. I've been told the front flaps aren't compatible with the running boards, but have seen a Kodiaq advertised for sale online with both the flaps and running boards fitted (see thread below).

Skoda are adamant they won;t fit if running boards are fitted, but I'm hoping that the fit might be acceptable i.e. 90% as opposed to 100% perfect.

Here you can see where the running boards start, would they be in the way of the front mudflaps?

This is any Good?  I would think they might fit over front edge of running boards.

Hmm, now that would suggest they've no way of fitting properly, unless they are modified or cut, which kind of defeats the object!

What on earth has this dealer done to get them to fit, judging by the profile (the big bulge) they've forced them on!?

media.thumb.jpg.f062329909f0e87e1bd970e3a0ae6f72.jpg

In this picture they don't seem to extend back as far (along the wing), which would suggest they aren't sitting flush / properly.

A bit gentle heat with a hair dryer might help mould them a bit better than the dealers effort.

They have butchered them on!
