Mud flaps

Featured Replies

I have just been quoted £150.00 by my dealer for all round mud flaps and fitting, seems expensive.

  • I meant to include this photo also showing the 2 screws on the front mudflap.

Yes, I bought mudflaps from Superskoda and got my dealer to fit it for £28. Even with shipping, it's far cheaper.

Thanks for that, I have now ordered from Superskoda.

How did you get on fitting them?

I was speaking to the dealer today whilst placing an order, I enquired about having the front mudflaps fitted by them as I didn't fancy cutting the car to bits myself (the front flaps require part of the plastic sill to be cut away to get them to fit).

He said the guy in the parts department mentioned orders for the front mudflaps were being put on hold as they're in the process of being redesigned.

No mention of resolving the issue of having the cut the sills to get them to fit, the reason given was that they were damaging the inner wheel arch liner, something about them becoming deformed over time?

I wonder if that is also the reason for the apparent "shortage" of front mudflaps for the new Karoq...?

A month on and my dealer still isn't able to order the front mudflaps. Skoda UK are preventing orders of the current mudflaps and insisting their dealers wait for the redesigned ones to become available.

Problem is no one knows when that is likely to be.

Has anyone else had the front mudflaps fitted, has the plastic sill been cut as per the pictures above?

Even if it hasn't had to be cut - I would still hold off. My thinking would be this: if there wasn't a problem with the originals, why would they be refusing money for the old style flaps and insisting that a delay was the only option. If they can deform then the possibility of muck and water being held against paintwork and or allowed behind the liner could be a real corrosion issue.

Now, seeing as VAG have "fired" a major parts supplier in March, probably causing/worsening "seatgate" and other parts issues -  it could be smoke and bulldust while a new supplier takes up the reigns but why risk it?

VW cancels all contracts with rebel supplier

I spoke to Skoda UK customer services today, they're going to speak with someone in the 'parts team' on Monday and try to get me a date.

Estonian dealer said its delayed again and new flaps are coming in middle of april....we'll see...weird....

I wish they'd hurry up. My plastic sills appear to be going lighter and fluffy. I'll try to post a picture next time I clean it. Should I mention it to the dealer?

Do you mean they're being damaged by debris from the road?

We have an Octavia Scout with plastic sills. After 17,000 miles / 2 years they too are now quite rough to the touch from stone chips etc.

Some pictures would be great, if the damage is obvious and detracts from the cars appearance then I would definitely be pursuing the dealer. The problem with stone chip damage is that it is very easy for the dealer to blame 'fair wear and tear', or claim that you've been using the vehicle off road, which you'd imagine the Kodiaq was (to a certain extent) designed to do!

I think so. When they’ve been cleaned they feel rough and have a light tinge to them. I’ll try to get photos next time I clean it. It obviously goes back to Black when I put the PERL on it.

Sounds exactly the same issue as I have noticed on our Octavia Scout.

Sounds like mudflaps would help, but in my experience they only tend to protect the immediate area behind the flaps, there is very little or no additional protection offered beyond their 5-6 inch reach...

The best (but most costly) solution (apart from not driving the car!) is to fit side steps...

I’m not sure I’m ready for the Ant Hill mob hanging off the sides yet. :D

Strangely Superskoda have increased their price on the front flaps from €17.99 EUR to €49.99 EUR!

I spoke to my dealership yesterday (25/4/18) and they confirmed they have heard nothing about a date for the supply of the revised mudflaps and there is as yet no part number for them. Middle April come and gone.

Yep, I spoke to Skoda customer services last week too. They advised speaking to my dealer for a date :dull:

Tomorrow will ask from my dealer...they said middle of april but still nothing...why the hell this is taking so long...simple plastic piece...weird

Exactly is it necessary to install the side step?

Will it hinder the passenger coming out of the car?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, as i am from asia, and it seems the cars here seldom put/install side steps or mud flaps.

See here...

I've just checked with Skoda UK customer services again this morning, still no date on the arrival of the mudflaps.

Apparently the dealer can submit a request on their own computer systems, which then updates them with dates etc. direct from the 'parts team'.

These are the photos from the passenger side. The driver's side is pretty similar. That's after cleaning but before PERLing, if that's a thing. :)

Mudflaps should help to prevent the 'sandblasted' affect on the black plastic trim.
