Error codes - could they all be caused by the same thing?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I recently got a friend to run a test on my 2005 Fabia VRS which I have been having some issues with, mainly the battery going flat which i think is due to a faulty alternator.

When he ran a diagnostic test the errors in the pic came up. Could they all be caused by one single issue or are they likely to be individual issues? We cleared the errors and then later on that day the engine cut out when I was parking which was odd, it then turned over a lot before starting again.

Thanks a lot

First thing: it's not your alternator that's faulty. it's a broken wire (or two) that needs mending.

Fix that, clear the faults and see what comes back.

thanks for the reply - you can tell its not the alternator from the error codes?

Yep, pretty much. The P1503 code is consistent with a broken wire, I've never heard of it being an actual fault with the alternator.

Check whether the other wire is also broken by looking for the battery light when you turn on the ignition, then set about fixing one or both as required.

See here, and a link within:

@coiner - As @Wino says, there's a failure in one or both of the alternator control wires. They may just have pulled off the terminals, or they may be broken. Either way, it's a fairly cheap and easy fix, and may well clear all the other fault codes that are being thrown too.
