A leak or two?

Featured Replies

Primarily I am interested to know what color is the gearbox oil on my car? 07 Octavia 2.0 TDI BKD.

I have some sort of leak or 2 leaks and I don't know where to start from as it's pretty difficult to tell them apart... I had the bottom of the engine area washed clean and dried in order to try and spot where it's coming from.

An experienced opinion would be appreciated.

1st:

A transparent warm white'ish color liquid is dripping along the yellow arrow in the below picture. It doesn't smell like diesel or oil or anything I can recognize and it's not thick.....

It seems like it also tends to squirt upwards behind the engine due to air flow (that's what someone suggested) This one already showed up after a 25 km drive so it happens pretty quick. God knows for how long this has been going...

I have a feeling its pretty urgent as there's almost always a teardrop of whatever it is hanging from the tip of the gearbox/sump bolt.

This one is obviously oil BUT, where from? I've done an oil change 2 weeks at 14.000 or so km and since the last change I had to top up 2 times each time with 500ml. So 1 liter top up for 14.000 km. Not too bad for a recently turned 250.000 km diesel. The valve cover gasket was changed at 14.000 km ago when I had the previous oil change just to for the sake of elimination (started from the top). Now I need to go further down and see what's next? Turbo oil feed? What else can it be at that height? The picture below is taken from under the car and when dirty, it drips down on the turbo pipe, axle and perhaps splashes on the catalyst.

Not so worried about the oil leak as the car drives fine, pulls hard when needed and there's no error on vcds. I wouldn't mind a 1 liter top up between oil changes since I buy the 5 liter bottles anyways but as with any leak, it will intensify over time...

Hi, have you ever found where the leak was coming from?

Thanks
