Fabia 3 estate mirrors! cameras! no action?

Featured Replies

Hello- I've had a scout round and I can't see a thread that answers my question... which comes in sections, I'll try to give as much info as I can...

1. The rear view mirror housing, what's IN it? When I look at the housing from the exterior there's a circle cut out with a disc of thin plastic in it, what is this for? I was wondering if this is where Škoda mount a front facing camera...

2. The camera questions-

i). Having had an accident where someone 'didn't see me' and pulled out into my front passenger door on my old car- I'm wanting to add a permanent front discrete dash cam, and am thinking about one that mounts up by the rear view mirror, taking the wires around the windscreen and hardwiring behind the dash somewhere. (A professional auto electrician is doing it!) I've got the two choices attached below- one I suspect won't go around the fairly chunky plastic of the mirror housing and the other looks like it would work (if only I could remove part of the ceramic paint sun screening on the windscreen there!)- has anyone used a camera like either of these? What did you do location wise?

ii). As to rear view reversing camera- I'm looking at one that will replace the trunk handle- these seem identical on my Fabia 3 estate and my Fathers Octavia estate, but if anyone has advice on this I'd be grateful for it! Pic below

3. In other, unconnected new-owner queries-

Why can't I get Appleplay and speech stuff working? It's meant to be on the car, I remember the salesman telling me about it.

Why does the sat-nav look slightly out of focus (it's the non factory 'press media button and hold' kenwood system- and I wish it was 'press the radio button and hold' as I never use the radio but do use media!)

thankyou for reading that- I'd love some advice! Ta!

This is the camera I use - https://streetguardian.info/sg9665gcv3 is is fitted behind the rear view mirror and is very discrete. The quality is also rated amongst the best out there at the moment by a lot of dashcam reviewers and there have been no issues with reliability.

And because I had to go looking for that link I see they've now released a front and rear camera set up which I will have to look into!

I use a dashcam similar to that, its behind the mirror goes along the headlining down the rubber door seal on the drivers side and is hardwired into the fusebox. I can take some pictures if you'd like to see how I did it.

Thank-you both guys-

Scuffer, that's a bit more than I'd like to pay... budget requirements being what they are! LoLz!

Pullock, yes please, love to see some pictures- though I fully plan on sending the car to the auto electricians to get the job done (I can't bear the squeaky horn- got a nice Italian style two-tone job to go in as well!)

I'll take some and post them later, I'm no expert but it gets the job done. Don't get me started on the horn, its so embarrassing

There will be stuff in that housing for "rain sensing" and "auto lights" - there was some info going around about someone that got hold of a VW Golf mirror fixing housing and planted the camera chip and lens into it, which sounds like a brilliant idea for keeping things tidy and OEM looking!

Ah! Now that would be nice, I'd like it to be 'neat'!

Cable follows the red line. Then comes out of the seal and into the fusebox, for some reason it won't let me upload any more pictures though. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I like the idea of the one that looks like it wraps around the existing mirror support- where did you find that one?
