Reccomend a CD changer that plays MP3's?

Featured Replies

Instead of changing my head unit I may just buy a 6 cd changer. I was surprised when looking on caraudiodirect that not many play mp3's.

Has anyone got one that does that they can recommend?

Sony do a 6 Disc MP3 which with an adaptor will work with the Symphony Head Unit.

but if you keep the symphony it sill still sound ****e.....

change the h/u

I don't agree, I am perfectly happy with my Head Unit.

However if I was in Pixi's place I would change the unit for a Blaupunkt DAB unit rather than a changer.

Get one of these

Replaces standard CD changer (fits it the same brackets and plugs into the existing loom). Got one in my Octvia and am really happy, this is the cheapest I could find on Ebay, you can get them in the UK, but it is cheaper to buy from the US.

Comes with 20GB hard disk, but you can hack it to a larger one if need be (see http://forum.phathack.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1122424315)

I hear you man. I don't understand why many on here think it's crap, it's actually a great sounding headunit. Pretty crystal clear and warm if you ask me.

Pixi...you cute little thing...get yourself that 6-CD changer Stu was talkin' about. Get an adapter though with it.

Would second that - you don't really appreciate it's weakness until you put a better headunit in though.

I've got the Alpine CHA-S634 MP3 CD changer, and would recommend it as a top-notch piece of kit. I've got it hooked up to a cheap Alpine tape head-unit, which sounds a million times better (at least) than the Symphony...

Rob.

I wouldn't bother with a changer at all. Its just an extra cost and more installation time that just swapping the head unit. After all you can get 8 full albums or more (depending on the bitrate of the mp3s) on to one CD-R, so with potentially 8 hours or more on one CD-R it kind of negates needing a changer. Carry a small wallet of 10 CD-Rs and job's a good'un.

Pioneer MP3 players seem to be good quality. I use a DEH-9400MP, but all the ones ending in MP are pretty good and MP3 compatible.

I agree with Jason,

I've got a DEH-P7500MP and it's fantastic and alot easier option than getting a new cd changer as it's easier to change back to standard

I fully agree with what you're saying Jas but I can just imagine all the crap I'm gonna have in my car, including a load of cd's spread over the passenger seat so I can choose whilst sat in traffic or whatever.

If I did go for mp3's and get that many hours on one cd how on earth would I find a particular track? It would take ages to trawl through 8 hours of music.

Why not get an iPOD and a docking station/wiring for the car ? That way you could take your music with you and easily download/transfer tunes in the house.

The MP3 changers ar egood but they dont give you any sort of indexing etc. which means you could have 300 tracks and no idea where each one is.

Arrange the songs into folders on the CD - then you can pick your folder and then the songs within that folder...

Rob.

it's easy, I have my MP3's with different folders relating to different albums so you only have the 15 or so songs per folder, i used to save them all to one folder but had 60 songs on 1 cd-r and that got confusing!!

:iagree:

I literally have only one CD-R in the car at the moment, which is in the player. It seems the compilation I have in there never gets dull so I've not been enticed to change it yet. Its

Avril Lavigne

REM, Best Of

Evanescance

Norah Jones

Sheryl Crow, Hits

Stereophonics, latest one

and a couple of others I can't recall right now. :)

I couldn't go back to regular CDs now - little odd how you get used to MP3 technology.

Scarily, if you replaced Norah Jones with Kelly Clarkson thats my current CD changer selection too

Go for an iPOD pixi - you know it makes sense ;)

Got Kelly Clarkson on the PC... ;) Damn I got to get a new CD-R put together some time. Could do a full 700MB of new albums I've not put in the car yet. :o

I am most definetely not going for an Ipod Mr Gooch

If I burn mp3's back into audio files and keep the original HU, can I still put them into folders so I at least have half a chance of finding a toon before my journey ends?

Audio file are literally just that. So its not done in folders, its down as individual tracks, 1,2,3... and skipped left and right. There will be no up & down folder selecting with a normal WAV audio CD. (as its not a "data CD" like an MP3 CD is :))

As it will only be one album on one CD-R, chances of finding one track are good, as long as you know the track number, or rough position of it on the album. :)

Sorry, blonde moment :o (no offence to any blondes btw :D )

I think I will just make up some cd's from mp3 to wav and maybe get a cheap auto changer that doesnt need to play mp3's.

My head hurts

It was said on TV recently that burning MP3's to audio CD's allows you to get more on the disc. This is complete balls.

So, Pixi. What you're saying is that you're just going to have a CD wallet in the glove box filled with CD's ? ;) Mr Pixi would make a good CD changer.

Disc changers. They are so 1990's :D

I have been using mp3's for about 10 years (Seriously, it used to take about 2hrs to rip a cd back in the day) and I bought a JVC MP3 head from the States about 5 years ago as they were about
