Split breather hose

Featured Replies

So noticed a huge split in the Y shaped breather hose on my 1.8T  . What sort of problems does this cause?

I've ordered a new one so wondering if ok to run till it arrives?

Bit of duct tape on for now.

You may possibly get a engine management light come on if you have had the split for a while, as the engine will eventually pickup the unmetered air entering the system.

As far as problems go, you may smell oily fumes when the car gets hot, and if the split is large enough, it may leak a little oil, but generally it manifests itself more as a hesitation around 1200-1500rpm, and poor cold running in colder temperatures than we have at present.

If the duct tape holds, it will most likely be fine until you fit the new one.

Okay,thanks

No lights on the dash. I noticed it when I seen fumes coming from it. Couldn't believe the size of the split and yes there is a lot of hesitation lower down the revs.
