VRS Tdi Estate 0-60 vs Hatch

Featured Replies

Going through the brochure and I am wondering why the estate 0-60 is 0.4 slower than the hatch just on the 184 Tdi manual, there seems to be very little difference between estate and hatch on other engines, and I can't see why, is the gearing different?

Aero dynamics and drag coefficient difference.

Plus weight difference, estate is few kilos more than hatch.

Its due to the weight of the Labrador which is standard in the back of the estate...

0-60 can't be influenced by aerodynamics. Gearbox most likely exactly the same.

You've probably looking into 4x4 version. 0,1s difference between hatch and estate must be due to slightly rear biased weight distribution. Not a living soul can feel this difference, don't worry if you look into estate version.

7,6 is 4x4

7,9 is hatch

8.0 is estate

I think the brochure may have some errors :)

Hatch it has a 7.6, estate 8.0; 4x4 Hatch 7.3.

It just seemed odd that's all.

Ah ha, it those black labs they weigh even more, I'll have to put her on a diet.

4x4 helps to accelerate up to 60mph but after that is a disadvantage

Parkers has the estate at 0.1 worse than hatch for 0-60. Same for both petrol and diesel versions. The estate only carries an extra 30kg so 0.4 secs seems a big difference

As above, must be a tiping error. The French brochure (O3 FL VRS TDI) claims 7,9 s for the hatchback vs 8,0 s for the estate (manual or DSG does not seem to make a difference), whereas the 4x4 version gets 7,6 s in hathcback or 7,7 s in estate. You can check it out at page 9 in the link https://indd.adobe.com/view/d7784aeb-565d-4250-be33-04b3446a08a9.

Actually across the range they claim the same difference of 0,1 s in favour of the hatchback. That being said, they may have measured it with a French Bulldog in the boot rather than a Labrador :) hence the lesser difference.
