slow gearbox in vRS

Recommended Posts

anyone else find this? Feeling a bit sluggish when pulling away in D.. like a half second of 'nothing happening' . Could prob overcome this by flooring it but perhaps not the best around the little roads here.

1/2 a second happens but they can still do 0-62 mph in under 7 seconds, and stage 1 under 6.5 seconds so pretty good.

Switch off the TC and be aware that delays can come from going from brake to throttle, or just because there is software at work to stop you just sitting spinning tyres and shooting out with a bit of steering on at junctions.

Then there is a supercharger about to cut in and things happen pretty quick.

?

evtilsley,

is the car less nippy now than it was, or are you just ready to move on to something quicker?

Stage 1 or stage 2 is surely not a problem on little roads is it, or are pizza delivery scooters blowing you off?

My son tends to get this with left foot breaking, or for example when pulling up to a junction, the car tends to hold on to 2nd gear, there can be a delay between slowing to a almost creeping speed to settings off again.

Which is why left foot braking does not work if there is still a foot one the throttle. even a touch, and this why the VW Rally Team Reccy cars had to have the software map out what happens when you press the brake pedal and the accelerator.

Awayoffski.. no dont need anything faster at the moment (have had some V8s in past pre kids). It's for school ruinds, work etc.

Just wondering if this can be 'ironed out' in any way maybe with software. Car is already Stage 2 REVO btw.

Yes good find to YOU !

I knew Andy looked after the car well (and it shows.. is a belter)

Ah well I expect that's the way this DSG/semi auto works.. a little slow to pick up sometimes from standstill.

You'll know.. other than decent scheduled servicing what things need doing on top every 'X' years - ie gearbox oil? Coli packs? ... ?

FYI I'm planning on changing plugs & oil every service. Oil will be as you've advised previously.

Has it needed the Water Pump replaced yet?

If not best go check closely the 2 belts for condition / wear.

If not done just watch for any slight drop in coolant level.

No gearbox oil on the DQ200 DSG needs changing,

Skoda changed it from Synthetic to Mineral at that Service Campaign '34F7',  and thge Software Update should have been done and sounds as though it was,  but then some Techs messed that up and the Software Update was not done correctly....

But then you are 3 years on now from that.

So unless VW Group now decide because there is Mineral Oil in the MCU for 3 years & now and it needs changing no need to bother,

and if it needs doing they will need to pay because from 2009-2014 they were Sealed for life with no Service Schedule or Guidelines on servicing.  That was really until in 2012 they did a 'World Wide Recall'  & Warranty Extension, excluding Europe, not part of the World obviously.

The sticker should be in the spare tyre well showing '34F7'  for when the DSG Service Campaign was done,

and from that post in 2014 we know it was supposedly done.

That mileage done now is still lower than when many fail or start to, sometimes around 60,000 miles.

It is the Water Pump & Magnetic Supercharger Clutch, so around £400-£500 with Water Pump & 2 belts replaced @ a Main Dealers.

(there is a recent thread with Crazy quotes from main Dealers service desks with all the gear and no idea.)

Check the belts closely though now because obviously your car has never been raced or rallied but does get some use.

Just watch the beginning of any drop in coolant level, or the hint of a flashing warning light, Engine light or EPC, and be aware what the misfire can be caused by.

  • 2 weeks later...

On the subject of servicing, my son and I went to rainworth skoda this morning,my son needed to top up his engine coolant.  Whilst there we asked about the water pump and timing belt, apparently it's every 5 years or 120,000 miles. Also they only mentioned the one belt being changed, what is the other one? Also the quote to change 1 belt plus water pump was £430 inc vat.

My sons car is a 13 plate coming up to 40k.

So is your son just going to monitor coolant loss, and watch for any hint of a Engine Emissions or EPC light?

'Apparently' is a word that is not much of a guarantee seeing that members here have needed Water Pumps changing at 60,000-100,000 miles, but some at lower miles than that.

Apparently Skoda / VW came up with a Schedule before knowing how long Water Pumps / Belts would last on a 1390 cc 132-136kw petrol engine, and have not updated their schedules, or someone is looking at the wrong engine and do not know their ar53 from their elbow.

IF ANYONE HAS A SERVICE BOOK FOR THEIR Fabia Mk2 vRS, could they please look at 5 years service,

it says change the Alarm Siren, does it say 'Change Water Pump'?

Yes offski, we will manage the coolant loss, and keep an eye out for an engine warning light. We will update here/ask for help if we have further issues.
