Dab radio in a mk1 help please anyone

Featured Replies

Hello just bought a dab cd player new today from halfords it's a kenwood bt710dab I was after a bit of advise as to how to go about getting the dab part working the guy from the store told me I need a new updated areial is this correct and has any one ever fitted one to there octavia mk1 many thanks

I think he's correct about the aerial. I have DAB in the Octavia and the wife's Fabia and the 'aerial' is in the glass at the rear of the car.

This from the BBC:  DAB uses different frequencies from FM radio. We advise you check that your antenna is able to receive DAB, in the majority of cases you will need a new antenna. An exception is "helically wound" FM aerials.

Thanks moley for your reply oh rite I see funny you mention a glass mounted areial as the young fella from halfords advised me away from the glass mounted ones he said they don't pick up as good of signal as a roof mounted one he offered me a magnetic one but I was put off it as the wire would have to run outside the car so the only other option he said was to replace the standard octavia areial with a dab one that bolts into the existing areial hole which I guess the whole headlining has to come out which I'm a bit sceptical off

The wire in the glass is as built by Skoda and the signal is good. You should be able to drop the rear headlining enough to access the aerial when replacing, I don't think it's that it's too difficult.

Oh I didn't realise there was a wire built into the glass on mine it's an 02 model great job thanks for your help hopefully it's not too difficult thanks again

I bought a Pioneer DAB head unit a few months ago and recently installed the glass mounted ariel on the front screen.  It seemed to work OK after solving a couple of teething problems.  Reception was OK most of the time but not great when going through a low signal area.  Solved this by finding an option in the menus for a powered DAB ariel.  Now have strong reception 98% of the time.  Crystal clear radio.
