Gearbox spewing oil!

Featured Replies

HELP! I have an 02 plate L&K estate tdi 110 with 127 miles, mapped with EGR delete and goes like a rocket. A few days ago I popped out to visit a couple of friends and noticed the clutch slipping quite bad. My Wife had been using the car for a few days while hers was in the paint shop and I thought maybe she had been riding the clutch and had glazed the friction plate. I therefore just kept driving thinking that it would improve, guess what it didnt! When i eventually stopped I noticed that distinctive burnt gearbox oil smell, on inspection the stuff was pouring out! I nursed it home and next day dropped it off at my local garage who said the leak was in the bell housing hence the contaminated slipping clutch. They said it could be an issue with some pin that had come adrift inside but not sure what they were on about. I thought the only way for the box to loose oil within that area would from the  output shaft seal catastrophically failing. Any ideas? Would it be better to find out what box it is then try find a correct 2nd one?

Might be better to get your gearbox repaired rather than taking a gamble on a used one.
