Oil usage Octy VRS (65 Plate)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Having driven for 30 years and having owned a few cars in that time, I find that my VRS requires frequent oil top ups between servicings, with all the cars I've had previously this is the first time Ive encountered this, is this normal for a VRS? I do mainly motorway miles.

Give us a clue then.

Petrol or diesel, and between Fixed or variable servicing and how much oil being added and how often?

Did you read the owners manual about the first 5,000 km or what ever,

but the VW Group may use 0.5 litres / 1,000 km figure is for all engines, 3,4,5,6,8,12 cylinder, petrol , diesel, hybrid, gas or what ever,

and is the usual nonsense.

'High Alpine Mountain Passes in Summer towing', has little to do with commuting Milton Keynes to London or whatever trip a Car is making in the UK in normal weather conditions driving solo.

Ah yes, type of fuel that may have been of help.

Its a Diesel, Im on variable as I think mine is on above average miles (28k) I normally have to put a good couple of litres in it at least twice between services. If thats normal thats fine, I just wondered.

Our company's TDIs need topping, all of them. We have 140 O2 and 150hp O3. Seems that cars been driven in the open roads with temperament has this issue.

Our black one we drive privately is mostly in the city, low rpms, no topping between services.

My personal white one, TSI, actually didn't need topping, did a service after 13500km, lost approx 0,5l.

I can conform my VRS tdi has had to be topped up now and again. On variable servicing regime

Thanks guys, I'll stop worrying about it then.

I found it was always just over the mid point through the variable service cycle.....circa 10,000 miles

rsthiswayup,

You must know if the car gets Oil & Filter changes at below 10,000 miles or at nearer 20,000 since you say you are topping up between services.

So 2 litres in twice in 18,000 miles (4 litres between services is a bit much really on a car doing motorway work.

That makes in not a diesel fuel user but an engine oil user.

If your car is a keeper and you own it i would be monitoring the oil useage, and at the next service telling the Dealership to have an Official Oil Consumption Test approved under the warranty.

As it is Skoda UK can pay for your oil even if you do not want remedial actions, even if they say within tolerances,

because paying for 4 litres, then having to have that drained & new OIl & Filter bought, and then 4 litres more in before the next service is not acceptable,

even Skoda / VW know that.

My TDI burns 1.5-2 litres of oil between 30k services (just like my previous TDI's). It's a company car, I mostly drive on highway at (real) 145 km/h. And I am not gentle with the throttle pedal when overtaking, etc. :giggle:

When the car was new, I topped up almost 3 litres from 0-30k km.

Perfectly normal with my driving style. :)

My vRS TDI uses around 0.75L between 20k km services.

Usually a week or so before the service is due I will get the "check oïl warning".

As others have said, lots long trips over time seems to increases the consumption (i guess it makes sense as the oïl will be thinner when its hot).

If you ask the garage, I'm sure they will tell you that the consumption is within normal limits.

My wifes last Peugeot used 1L of oïl per 2000km with no signs of leaking or oïl in the exhaust & the garage repeatidly told me it was normal & there was nothing they would do.

I've always had diesels before & have never had to top up with oïl between services but this is the first car I've had on "variable servicing" and where I have such a long commute each day.
