PROPOSED 20 BLANKET LIMIT ON SCOTTISH ROADS

VWD

Recommended Posts

There will be the 18 month pilot scheme results to see if there is a reduction in accidents or maybe just survey results showing if people feel safer in the Towns & Villages where it is in force or being policed.

There are 20 mph limits already with Average Speed Cameras covering the length of the limited distance.

Surely the Scheme will have Road Side Air / Emissions & Noise detectors to see if there is any reduction in pollution and an improvement in the air quality,

plus a reduction in noise.

The figures for areas of Scotland where 20 mph speed limits and that of the Borders Council areas will be interesting to see in another 18 months.

Why not have a time limit on it. Here in Germany many 30kmh zones are only between certain times as they're usually in place for schools etc.

But we also have a lot of pedestrians zones too. Most housing estates that aren't on main or through roads are pedestrian zones and the max speed is walking pace (7kmh).

There are 20 mph speed limits at some Schools in Scotland as well & the signs or flashing lights to show when, like during going in to and coming out of school or break times.

Not at Weekends & Holidays. Some think it funny to turn on the speed limit signs which used to be rather easy, and must still be.

(It used to just need a match stick, to turn on, or turn them off.)

There are permanent 20mph speed limits in many housing schemes.  I live within a 20 mph speed limit area.

Towns and Villages with main roads running through them have residents that want more people walking or cycling will be 24 hour a day places.

They might well want less HGV's rumbling through at 30 or 30+ mph during the night as well as the day and just having to be at a 20 mph max.

It is main roads and trunk roads getting a 30 mph limit reduced to 20mph for 18 months as well as the rest of the town or village.

These towns or villages might well already have roads that are 20 mph speed limited at times away from the main road.
