Aerial Swap - New is male, old is female?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Mk1 Fabia - Aerial has always been bent from what I recall and it has finally been bugging me enough to change it.

Everything I have seen has suggested that you unscrew and pull. Hard. Except mine just unscrews.

I bought the shorter one with the code listed here and elsewhere on the forum:

The problem is that the new aerial is a male connection, old is female. Why is mine totally different to everything else?

Even on the workshop manuals site it shows it different to mine...

Does the base screw come out? I can turn it with a spanner, just but it just spins...

Or is it a whole new base?

Thanks,

Scott

When my aerial was replaced I had to buy a whole new unit. I'

I replaced the complete unit, the base is held on with a nut you can access by removing the trim at the back of the headlining then reaching under the headlining to undo it.

Thinking outside box - what sort of RF connector is used ,as it might be cheaper and easier to look for an adaptor in places like RS.

Sites like http://www.amphenol.co.uk/

might give you an idea of the type, then look for the relevant adaptor in RS. If it's the same as satellite, then I'd suggest silicon grease all round and encase the connector in Heatshrink, especially as they've a branch somewhere near you and they allow public to pay on line and pick up next day.

Since the consensus was new base too, I went that route. Found someone breaking a newer vrs near me and snagged it for a fiver. This one is the right fitting and also is movable which is interesting. The new aerial I bought fits, after some...cutting. :D

Now to install tomorrow assuming it doesn't rain.
