No space saver, what should be there instead?

Featured Replies

Hi all, just picked up my 2014 VRS TDi estate yesterday, I was expecting to find a space saver in the boot but I just have a rather sparse foam insert. The foam insert just contains a VAG branded powered inflater and the alloy locking nut, all other sections are empty. Is that all there is meant to be or am I missing something?

I'm also considering getting a space saver and tool kit, does anyone know a cheap place to get the space saver from?

Should be a bottle of tyre repair gel as well. Assuming the previous owner hadn’t used it. Other than that, fresh air

Thought so.

I also have an extra VRS alloy that came with the car so I might see if that fits first. The dealership said it was kerbed and the last owner just bought a new one rather than repairing but on closer inspection it doesn't look bad at all, just some flaking lacquer around the rim.

Use the spare alloy and buy a jack and wheelbrace from eBay. The wheel may cause the boot floor to sit slightly proud but that can be sorted easily enough.

Keep the compressor in the car it can be handy. Foam is useless if you tear a sidewall, for example.
