2014 Columbus - help / advice needed!

Featured Replies

So the navigation screen won't open. "Starting Navigation" is displayed but remains on the screen.

The direction indicator (e.g. NW or NE) at the top of the Maxidot just displays the arrow with "- -" next to it which tells me the Nav isn't working or talking to the satellites.

I delved into into the menus and found an "updating software please wait message".

Not keen on resetting everything until I know what the problem is.  I have had a look at the manual (nothing at all about problems or trouble-shooting) and google-ing hasn't helped.

The old switching off and back on trick hasn't worked either.

Any advice / thoughts please guys?

Edit: the other functions of the unit all appear normal.

Have you tried holding down the on/off dial for 10 seconds? It does a soft reset of the unit. I have to do this from time to time with mine, though not for the same issue.

Interesting about the updating software bit, presumably you haven't tried an update that's been interrupted?

Thanks buddy. No, I haven't tried an update. I wouldn't know how.

I'll try a soft reset in the morning.

Cheers,

Dunc

I presume a soft reset is performed with the unit starting at switched on?

Any thoughts regarding my situation will be greatly appreciated.

So, turned the car on this morning & the map came straight back up.

Looked at the system settings screen and saw that it was offering me a 'update software' option rather than saying 'please wait, updating software'.

So my assumption has to be that the system decided to update itself yesterday and that the map simply wasn't available during the update period.

I wasn't aware that they could self-update!

Is there someone with technical knowledge that can shed light here? @MoggyTech or anyone else?

Cheers

It won't actually update unless you have media inserted which has the updated map data. You have to press the update software to initiate this, rather than it offering an update if that makes sense.

That said, you're on 2014/2015 maps so probably not a bad idea to stick the 2017/18 update on there. There's a thread on here from a few months ago with the link for a MIB1 Columbus. Download it, extract to a 32GB SD card or USB and use that update software menu.

Ok, thanks. May do that!

But, still doesn't explain why it went into update mode on its own?

Unless I inadvertently pressed the update button whilst doing something else, although I doubt it.

Edit: appreciate your help!
