Creaking noise on getting out of car

Featured Replies

Hi. I've had my 2014(64) Octy 2.0 L Tdi Elegance for a little over a week now

and I'm mostly very pleased with it. However there can be quite a loud creaking

noise on getting out of the car. It seems to be worse when I have a few passengers

getting out. It appears to be coming from the suspension.

I've tried rocking the car and I get more of a squeaking sound.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked your knees?

This is interesting. I think I know what you mean - I have the same. It's hard to describe (I might try to take a video at some point but it'll be hard to capture). I have got the same on both my 64 2.0TDI CR Elegance, but the wife's car does the same (63 Seat Leon 1.6 TDI). After both cars do it I assume it's "characteristic" (but it doesn't sound great).

Would be interested to hear if others have found the same (and may be any better at describing this than I am)

I have the same. I notice it when I go over a speed ramp and reckon it's dry anti roll bar bushes.

Thanks for all your replies. Good joke about the knees :)

Donny, I'll mention the possibility of dry anti-roll bar bushes to my

mechanic friend.

As already said, ARB bushes, drop links possibly.  On my last Passat it was the main lower suspension arm to crossmember bush.  I gradually sprayed each joint with WD40 'til the noise abated, at which point there was no disputing which one was the culprit.

same on my car.

I've chatted to a few mates and checked out other motor forums

and it might well be related to handbreak creaking - slippage on

rear discs. They say if handbrake is pulled up hard the creaking

should go or certainly decrease. I'll try that later... it seems to be

quite a common annoying problem with many cars.

If you use the handbrake then I can 100% assure you it's that causing it. Same here.

Most car handbrakes creak but my creak is when iam moving with the handbrake off.

My last two cars have done this. I agree its most likely the handbrake!

If its like mine it does it on the flat too. The car groans like your mate who just got in weighs more than prize livestock. My leon did it from new, my skoda is currently doing it too
