my 2011 diesel manual gearbox roomster drives itself automatically in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th gear when engine at 1000 revs. Why? Help!

Hi Woletsog274 and welcome to Briskoda.

Could you please explain: "...drives itself automatically..."

What actually happens?

I think he means that 1000 revs is the minimum you can do when the car is moving. Mine does it too. eg if you roll down a hill in neutral the revs increase to 1000.

Please don't lecture me about rolling in neutral.

the engine holds itself at 1000 revs and the car proceeds without me pressing the accelerator. at inclines i can feel the drive adjusting and keeping the speed constant. this situation will continue indefinitely until i rev the engine to increase revs above 1000. if revs begin to drop below 1000 i can feel the engine increasing the revs back to 1000 without me touching accelerator.

Thanks @bryanb& @woletsog274

I'm reasonably certain my (much missed) 2009 diesel Roomster did the same thing.

What you have described seems normal and nothing to worry about - but I don't know the reason for it.

Thanks for your input-it`s very odd to feel the car doing its own thing, tho!
