Superb II vs III

Featured Replies

Those who have driven both the mark II and III, how do you compare the quality impression and driving characteristics? Is the mk III miles ahead, or is it just subtle nuances? :)

I drove a 2011 Superb MkII Elegance 150PS DSG 4x4 Estate for six years from nearly new. Best car I've ever owned and I've had a few. I liked everything about the car. It was very well spec'd and never let me down. I also liked the look of it.

It was however time to change and get the best from the remaining value in the car.

I'm now driving a very different car - An ex demo Superb Sportline 190PS DSG with 3000 miles and after 2 weeks I'm still getting used to it. My immediate impression how much the technology has increased and improved. The build quality is just as good IMO and I really like the styling of the Mk III. Still getting used to 19" wheels, sports suspension and that pedal lag on the diesel, but love the Alcantara sport seats.

There is a lot about the styling of the Mk II which is carried over particularly in the estate boot area with the bins at each side, hooks torch etc, but I miss the long retainer bar on rails which was really useful.

Getting into the MK III, everything was familiar and broadly in the same place, but the Columbus is miles better than my Mk II set-up. Also great that you can download new Nav maps free twice a year.

I think I was spoiled with the Mk II Elegance. It had pretty much everything that I could want in a car. The Superb I would have chosen was the SE Technology, but there were some compromises on kit, particularly the bi-xenon lights which I really like.

The Sportline, apart from being available at the right price to change had the right blend of kit for me.

Subtle nuances...? I'd say 'no'; they are very different cars but there is much that is familiar to a driver moving from one to the other . However, will I love the Sportline as much as my MK II Elegance? Early days, but I'm not so sure.
