Cam chain tensioner help?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My mk2 pfl vrs tfsi has started making a ratteling noise from cold intermitanitly. It normaly does it imediatly after starting and will stop when the car is turned off and on again, mabey oil inst getting to it quick enough?

Any who my mechanic freind mentioed it might be the cam chain tentioner behined the vacume pump on the fuel pump side of the engine.

Before i go booking it in for somthing inevitably exspensive, does this sound like something you guys have dealt with.

Thoughts please.

I might be stupidly wrong here, but I didn't know the TFSI had any chain or chain tensioner? I thought the PFL TFSI was all belt?

As I've find out from experience replying to other posts, there is a camchain linking the camshafts on the EA113 which can get noisey. The belt only drives one pulley on one of the camshafts.   Not sure how the chain link is tensioned but there must be some tensioning mechanism.   Have you checked the more common problematic wear prone cam follower for the HPFP.?
