Yeti Petrol - 1.2, 1.4 or 1.8?

Featured Replies

You've got it in one. Take a test drive in a 1.2 and see if it's powerful enough for you. I went from a 2.0 litre diesel to the 1.2 after a couple of test drives and was surprised how quiet it was with sufficient power for me - and I drive briskly in line with traffic conditions.

Went to France last month in my 1.2 - you can read my report further down in this section.  Mine's one of the last pre-facelift so think (hope!) the cam chain problem had been ironed out by then. Very satisfied with performance, passengers regularly express surprise that it's "only" a 1.2 litre.

Just for fun, mpg  photo taken today after gentle drive.......

I had a 2.0 140bhp diesel Yeti for 3.5 years and have just changed to a 1.4TSI 150bhp petrol Yeti. I actually prefer the petrol due to it being so much quieter and performance is very similar. The diesel has more torque on paper, but the petrol pulls well from 1500rpm and is seamless until well up the rev range. I was surprised as I thought the turbo would kick in higher up but you can take roundabouts in third gear and pull out strongly. For a 1.4 petrol the performance is astonishing compared to engines of a few years ago.

If your budget allows, i would definately drive one to see how you like it.

Similar to above, went from a 2.2 TDI Honda CR-V to  1.2 TSI Manual , 4 of us to France with luggage and really did not notice the difference apart from the lack of wine storage space!

You're lucky that that is the furthest off topic we went!

Just one last point as regards the space for bikes. If you do go for an L&K bear in mind that they have panoramic sun roofs as standard which does reduce the useable height. This probably isn't in the area where the bikes will stand but worth checking out.

I've got an L&K with panoramic sunroof, two mountain bikes stood up front wheels off no problem and still room for enough luggage for a week for 2. Easy.

Recently new to this site but was interested by this thread, I regularly use my Yeti for camping in the UK and as you can see my internal bike rack allows me to carry my two full size bikes with plenty of room for camping gear. I have also found the bikes fit even with the left rear seat in place.

The bike mounts I bought from Amazon do away with fiddly straps and hold the bikes rock solid. The front seats are not compromised at all and are almost at full leg length. Friends who have seen this setup are surprised by the size of the load space with the seats removed so much so I have been volunteered to carry bikes and riders for the C2C cycle route.

3 adults, 2 bikes and luggage inside the car..... Go Yeti

Curious about the 1.8 t Petrol issues, What issues ?

I have had a 1.8 T L&K for 4 years not a peep out of it.

Ones like this, which might be a small percentage, but then look at the pinned thread in the Octavia Mk2 Section on 1.8 / 2.0 TSI engine issues.

People do report problems on social media / forums, but that is because there are some with problems, some with major problems.

(sadly not all get new engines or rebuilds, they just lose thousands resolving the issue themselves.)
