what can be done with these head units? I have full link enabled but cant do much more than I could with Bluetooth.

I would like to be able to do the Samsung galaxy hack and use any app on the screen, but I have an LG G5.

That's Amundsen in Skoda-speak.

I did consider specifying Full-link be enabled (£200), but after reading up on the subject it didn't seem to offer much addtional functionality. A family member has the equivalent head unit it a Mk III Fabia and this offers the ability to search via Google (when paired with Smartphone). as when as a Wi-fi hotspot (my phone does this) and of course Android Auto / Apple Carplay / Mirror link.

Mirror link / Android Auto etc  still rely on a wired connection and I tend to use my USB port for music, so opted not to have it enabled.

I've seen Full-link activation discs on eBay ~£120, but will probably put this cash towards a map update!

the unit that your family member has sounds like navi plus, as it can use a wifi hotspot. this is a much better unit in that it can play video files when stationary and has the other functions you mentioned.

I thought full link would allow me to do more or less the same but using my phone. it doesn't. the most useful thing ive found on it is you can use google maps via android auto.
