A question with car chassis of skoda rapid

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just picked up a new skoda rapid spaceback today. However, after I came home, I found out two black "cable" falling below the car chassis ( I can see them from both sides of the car). Does anyone know what they are? is it normal for skoda rapid? Thanks!

fairly sure that amount of sag is normal.

they are the hand brake cables.

Welcome,

is it new as in just registered?

Best get the dealership to get a technician to get them fastened up.

Yes, it was just registered in the morning.  I will drive it to workshop and find someone to have a look at it tomorrow.

May i suggest that if you have not done already, go check the 4 tyre pressures,

if they are not as they should be set, matching across the axles, and at the correct suggested pressures, have the Dealer Principal have a Master Tech do another PDI on your car, Post Delivery as the Pre Delivery was rubbish.

Thanks Headinawayoffski! I will definitely ask them to check the tyre pressure, though the salesman told me that they were all fine when I picked up the car. However, it is a pity that I have to take my new car to the workshop in only one day after car delivery. I hope that it is not a big problem for the car.

Really best you check and set your pressures to the type of driving and weight carried and reset the TPMS. Especially when collecting a vehicle.

Never a good idea to trust to others.

You can actually see the two clips in that pic that secure the cables, the RH one looks like it needs tweaking to hold the cable better.

Why the concern with tyre pressures? Yes they do over inflated them at dealers, just let some out or whatever to correct the pressures.

Simply Clever, ^^^

Concern with tyre pressures is because a Principal Dealer / Workshop manager allows Fitters or Technicians to not give a damn about Customer or nearest dearest or others safety,.

Push them to turn out vehicles, tyre pressures unchecked maybe, TPMS not set, and brake cables unclipped.

Maybe Oil level low, Coolant low, wheel nuts unchecked or over tight, who knows, but tyre pressures give a good indication.

'Good enough, is all that needs doing'. Well for lazy barstewards it is.

^^^ Over reaction but I agree, dealers do slip up with with these checks, tyre pressures notably.

Back to the point in question, my Toledo cables hang a bit, not quite as much as shown in those pics. Yes I would query the fitment.

Only an over reaction,  if it is a one off, and everything else checked,

Biggest Independent Family owned dealer, started in Scotland seems to slip rather a lot. Put that down to management, and lack of attention to details.

Pile them high and get them out the door.

Odd because they own the Training Facility that so many on the Motor Trade get their qualifications from.

Looking forward to hearing if the OP's tyres were all set right, and if the dealership employee was happy to secure the cables and make an appology for wasting their time.

A quick update regarding on this issue. I took my car to the workshop today. Technicians tell me that it is very normal to have these cables handing like this.... To convince me, they showed me another three skoda cars in the shop, more or less having the same problem. I asked them to fasten them, but they said that it might cause a problem to suspension, and eventually they would fall again. Anyway, they didn't do anything on these cables. From now on, I need to check these cables routinely. if one of them slips out of the hooks, I need to have it fixed immediately...

BTW, Just want to say to Skoda Auto: it will be a real " simply clever" if you can design your cars in a way that these kinds of cables can attach to the chassis firmly.

3.5 years so far. No problems with these parts. Never stressed about them.

On my Toledo, the cables sag this much, the drivers side more than passengers. I tried before to bend the clips up a bit believing they might snag on something, but they eventually lower back down again.  Interestingly, these cables aren't noticeable on similar models on the same platform such as Polo and Fabia.

same on ours too..
