Windscreen for my YETI

Featured Replies

I need some help.

I cracked my windscreen, a big nasty looking crack, and I cannot trace another windscreen online.

It doesn't help a lot that I am in Kenya, but I am desperate enough to pay whatever price for the glass. I have already lost about £100 in bribes to police officers.

The part number is 5L0845011. If anyone can help me track the OEM glass, I would be eternally grateful.

Also, how to pack the glass for international transport?

I have had mine replaced with an after-market screen.
Surely a windscreen replacement firm near you could obtain one.
You are not thinking of replacing it yourself are you?

& Windscreen suppliers know how to pack windscreens for transportation, that is the business they are in.

I don't plan replacing the windscreen myself. That's kind of hard to do.

I am in Kenya, and I think a total of 10 skoda yetis were sold locally. To make matters worse, the local dealership was closed. So am left to source for the windscreen in UK

Where can I find contacts for UK windscreen suppliers? I have a shipping agency in the UK that can handle the logistics of shipping from UK to Kenya, but my googlefu has not yielded any information on where I can get a replacement OEM windscreen in UK

Why are you sourcing from the UK, is it because of speaking English.

Is Austalia not as cheap to get from or Czech republic, China or even India..

You seem to have an internet connection, but hopefully someone will be along that knows of Windscreen Suppliers,

all the UK ones that supply and fit come up with google searches.

Since you are just buying one i take it you do not get wholesellers.

Actually Czech and India would have been the cheapest. Cant trust Czech sites for monetary transactions. India does not have a lot of online information in regards to skoda parts. I guess I need to search for official skoda dealers in both countries, and contact them.

China is a no-no because of language barrier, of course.

I prefer UK because there is buyer protection, and established shipping lines to Kenya

Are there no windscreen replacement firms in Kenya?
Mine was not sourced or replaced by Skoda but by an independent windscreen repair/replacement firm.
They have the buying power and know how to fit it so why are you sourcing it yourself?

Nope. Kenya had only one Skoda dealer, and the dealership was closed.

The cheapest quote I have gotten for the windscreen is £900 from someone who is going to "mould" the glass. Seems a tad too expensive for that, yes?

The market dynamics of Kenya are a bit different. Most of the time, you source for components and parts on your own and a mechanic does the installation/repair. So its common for most people here to ship spares from UK for VAG cars. Thus established logistics companies specialising in shipping from UK to Kenya.

Have you been in touch with any UK Main Dealership,  or Autoglass and others, asking for OEM or pattern.

or Europarts, TPS or parts suppliers.

I had TIBET III's windscreen replaced by Autoglass recently. New screen was identical to the old one but no Skoda logo. The fitter said it was from the OEM supplier - heated and with light/rain sensor stuff all there and worked perfectly. For the record, Autoglass did a very good job.

[Continuing OT for a mo'...

Autoglass replaced Anna's a month ago, again non-Škoda (must remember to post my pics of the nifty mech aids they use).  Chip-plus-bounce mark deemed non-repairable.  Similar chip in new screen last week. B*m.  Last new screen was in a Volvo 240 estate, back in the late 1980's, so perhaps luck balances out in the long term! ]

what part of Kenya are you located

Here is a lost of all the countries that sell skoda cars.  there a re a few in Africa, although the nearest look like Sudan and Egypt.  One of those may be able to help you.

If you are keen to source from the UK, then maybe best to call or email one of the dealerships that supplies parts such as skodaparts.com?

Sudan would be ideal, but the redirect takes me to a veryshady website

The power is strong in you :)

Most of this windscreens are toyotas, which are the most common vehicles.

One of the guys on the links is willing to look for one locally. Things may be looking up ::::)))

^^^ So have you contacted any Autoglass Dealer in the UK yet or a Skoda Dealership?
