This weekend I will be mainly.......

Featured Replies

1) Fitting my new nsf door latch. Genuine part courtesy of Micheal at Seat Worcester.

2) fitting new rear Bump stops

3) fitting at least one new front drop link (might do that tomorrow of I can get hold of one after work)

4) changing the servo brake vacuum pipe for a new one

And finally, repairing the door of the fitted Bosch dishwasher washer, the hinge spring draw string has broken,I await the parts.

Any advice on car or dishwasher appreciated. :)

Scrap the car and divorce the dishwasher?

Harsh, I did shoot myself in the foot with the dishwasher. The wife's said she'd get a man in to fix it, but after several mins on you tube it's clear that and ex engineering apprentice like me will be able to fix it. I however we forgot my daughter is having her bunch of 12yrs olds around all day...... joy

Leave the dishes in the back of the car. They will get washed with the amount of water that leaks in.

Forgot to say i sealed the nsr door on Monday, no other leaks so far. Fingers crossed.

Drop link done, no more rattling, also did the dash trick to stop that damn squeak. All squeak free.

Bosch dishwashers have hinge springs at both sides. If the door likes foot landings might both sides' hinge strings have been cut. A very easy job to do...

Ah!, I don't know anything about Skodas.

Good to hear that you are buying parts from Mike at SEAT Worcester,  he used to be the "parts man" on the AudiSport  forum and gave lots of discount, but seemed to get bumped off that forum by a guy from a proper Audi dealership who promised to be a good parts source - robbing barstward, me and a few other Audi owners questioned his approach via the "forum managers" - that did not get us very far, a closed shop set of clowns, so, every time someone posts a question about parts, a group of us pipe up with useful suggestions, ie, give the resident "parts man" a miss and find the previous one. A bit of a laugh and casual amusement maybe, but hopefully the message gets through and stops some business heading for Crewe Audi!

Dishwasher fixed, both sides had new springs, surprisingly easy to do.

Door latch didn't go to well though. Broke the plug for the latch and damaged the door speaker.

Any how got a new plug to solder back in and a set of speakers with all the bits on their way. Nothing special just some alpines. Going to book a couple of days off work and try to do the jobs left. Oh and I've added a coolant flush with new thermostat to the list. I changed the coolant tank and it was full of crap.

So that's,

Door latch and plug

Bump stops

Vacume pipe for servo

Speakers

Coolant flush and new thermostat.

Then i can look at some alloys, standard 14 inch Skoda ones and then a wash and wax for winter.

Just incase no one has seen a knackered Skoda MPI thermostat, here's one.

Not the best ever design of thermostat.

Was it overheating?

No not at all, she'd been running a little cool but the other night going home the guage only got 1/4 of the way up. I needed to change the coolant tank so thought I'd do it all in one go. Drain, flush, new coolant, new stat and new tank. Runs better now and the guage sits bang in the middle.

The same housing as my old Felicia mpi. Shame they didn't change the design/material on the Fabia. Had changed 3 housings over 5 years till a mechanic at an independent put a metallic after market and it is ok for more than 10 years.

Mine had a bill for thermostat replacement when I first got the car in 2014 so it's probably due to disintegrate any time now :D

Be sure it won't bypass you!!! It is only two plastic loops each 2-3 mm of plastic that withstand the force of the thermostat's strong spring.

Yes I think I will replace it soon. Silly design.

Have ordered a genuine thermostat housing which has the thermostat and coolant temp sensor already fitted. Hope it comes with an O-ring for where it mates to the cylinder head. Bloody should do for £50!

Anyone know if the latest thermostats are modified to do away with the daft plastic bits that snap? Although, confusingly, looking at TripleMcB's photo it looks like it's actually metal that has snapped. Maybe it's just the way it looks in the photo.

Nah! it was definitely plastic on the original and on the new one which was a genuine part it was also plastic. I got mine via my local Seat dealer her in Kidderminster. The parts guy Miles is pretty good. As long as you have apart number he can usually get it by the next day. Strangely I paid £47 for mine.

Went on with no probs at all. Came with all the bits, O rings, sender unit etc. Easy job.

Oh and today the rear bumper stops were dealt with. Checked the rear drum brakes. Eeeeeek, dirty and very worn fully adjusted up too. Picking up a complete set (pagid brand) with all the springs, wedges etc tomorrow from euro car parts all in £55. They've 7% off plus an extra 35% for ordering on line so I've saved around £35.

Tomorrow is third time for the nsf door latch, and speaker replacement.

So they never bothered to improve them :x A normal type thermostat would have been far better.

This is the one I bought...

I did my rear brakes recently. Used a TRW kit.

When you do yours don't forget about the plastic glide discs. There are six each side and they just press into holes in the back plate. On mine they were pretty much disintegrated. They are part number 6N0609589

Cheers. Just picked up the bits. Spent the morning sorting the front door speakers out and the nsf latch. All done now but think I have broken the led indicator in the drivers door.  I'll have a look tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the drivers door speaker

That's a poorly speaker :D

Its a new socket tomorrow as I've only got the old Imperial size of

1 & 3/16 and its a regular socket. For ease I've reserved one on line at my local halfords and got a part number for the led indicator in the door. Its less than a tenner so no problems. If all goes well it's a wash and then a wax in the garage, in the warm.
