Impressive warm up on a cold morning

Featured Replies

I set off just after 6am this morning and almost immediately heard the chime for low temp alarm at 4 DegC.

A minute later it dropped to 3 degrees (cue song).

Of course I was running hot seat, hot wheel, hot screen, hot rear window and hot mirrors after wiping off the overnight condensation.

The full shebang.

My big surprise after travelling less than 1.5 miles was the warmth of the heater air coming out of the dash vents.

Much, much warmer than I expected on the coldest morning of this winter. And the engine temperature gauge was just moving off the stop.

Bodes well for a comfy winter.

btw - 190 diesel.

ps - my day’s drive (277 miles) was wonderful when the sun came up and stayed out all day, over some great roads, including Keilder Dam

The heated seat and steering wheel get warm in less than 2 minutes.

I know that. They’re instant leccy powered. Hot water takes a bit longer to brew.

Anyway .....

The old Pad wouldn’t handle pics tonight, but the phone managed.

Good to know you had a warm start BoxerBoy, and VERY beautiful photos too.  :o:o

Is a heated steering wheel an option or could we all celebrate this warmth in a standard fashion?

It's an option.

Drat.

Upper level Skodas have extra heating onboard. So does my Superb II.

There are electrically heated ceramic elements in dash vents, which will warm up the saloon in 5 minutes when -10 celsius outside.

I think that depends on the country and the vehicle spec, linni.

Yes of course, it`s more Scandinavian - specific, but this is the only way BoxerBoy got his car warmed up quickly. Means his car must be equipped with additional heating. Coolant does not warm up in 1,5 miles trip.

I wasn’t aware of any special heating so I perused the handbook and came up with these pictures that must be behind it all.

It’s not crystal clear.

Once you don`t have Webasto (correct?), then you must have ceramic heater. Not familiar with new Superb/Kodiaq settings, but in Superb 2 you cannot switch one on or off. And there is no sign that it is onboard except very fast passenger room warm up. And the knoledge your car must be equipped with it.

P.S. Found a code for electric heater: 7E6

Only for diesel engines with automatic operation at temperatures below zero Celsius.

Probably you can find on ODIS (?) if your car is equipped with one.
