Next Service

Hi All, I am new here, and would be grateful for your expertise please -

My partner has a Citigo 63 plate petrol, manual. Last year, December 2016, on its 3rd birthday we had a MOT and 'minor service' (Oil change service + Brake fluid service) carried out by our local Skoda dealer. This was our first service since we bought the car used.

We are approaching the MOT again next month, and the same Skoda dealer called me and asked if we wanted to book it in again for MOT and service. I asked them which service, and to start with they said another Minor Service. I queried that and then they said it would need a Full Service. Then they have emailed me a quote, saying it will be a Major Service. They should know, maybe they do and maybe I am being mislead..

Is anyone please able to tell me which service we really need?

The data sticker in the boot says 'Q14' so its fixed service intervals. The mileage is only 20838. My partner does very low mileage, she has only done 650 miles in the last year! local driving.

Looking at the service history printout, in Dec 2015 (before we bought it) it had a 'Inspection with oil change' (including a dust and pollen filter). In Dec 2014 it had a 'Oil change service'.

Thanks for your help,

Unfortunately, the fourth year service IS a big'un...irrespective of mileage covered. You might argue (as dealer service people do) that very low mileage cars are in greater need of servicing than higher mileage ones.

You could save money by going to a VAG specialist independent servicing place...the labour rates are often half that of main dealers.

Thanks oxonboxn,

yes planning to look at an independent to reduce costs.

But is it a full or a major service?. I have always thought they are different. But when I replied to the skoda dealer's email, asking them if its a full service or a major service, they replied this afternoon saying a full service is the same as a major service. Doesn't sound right to me..

The Service does not need to be big or expensive on a 4 year old Citigo with under 21,000 miles and 650 miles since the last service last December.

The Main Dealers Service Schedule / Guidelines and Computer may say Major Service,

but have an Independent with a Mechanic / Technician that can say if the Air Filter or Spark Plugs need replaced,

and that will service the brakes and do actual Servicing & Maintenance rather than just saying £279 and a free vacuum & Wash, and lots of looking and reporting  and basically a Minor Oil & Filter Service gets done.

Servicing by usage and circumstances rather than by how nice a Dealerships building is and how many staff there are needing paying,  ie Skoda National Fixed Price Servicing vehicles over 3 years old.
