Routing for Dash Cam Cable

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been thinking of getting a dash cam. The one that I've been looking at fits behind the rear view mirror and attaches via docking connection. For power, I presume it plugs into the 12 volt plug. I was wondering how best to route the cable so that it's not in the way. Along the roof line, down the A post and then where? Any ideas?

After that you can go under the dash and have it come out near the cigarette lighter socket. Alternatively nextbase sell a hard wiring kit for their dash cams that piggybacks one of the fuses, so you could have an almost fully hidden install.

I ran my dash cam wiring from the mirror along the headline, just tucked in, and down the A pillar. On the mk2 I dropped it into the dash through the A pillar direct to the fuse box and used a Nextbase piggy back connector. I still have this in the garage if you want it.

This is what I did with mine.  Down the A pillar, under the dash (where the excess wiring was stashed) and through a small opening into the fuse box where I piggied off one of the ingnition live fuses.  Can't see any wire apart from an inch or twofrom the head lining to the unit.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies, some good advice and a common approach. I favour the piggy back method. The Dash Cam is definitely on the Christmas list.
