w7 patches

Featured Replies

Recently had to get rid of an ISP so called free antivirus package. So I looked around for a free one. At same time, I decided to loose W10 as part of my OS, and rely on XP ( OFFLINE ONLY) for my older hardware, nd W7 for anything else. So I installed both on another smaller HD, with Avast free as my security protection. Then I started to patch W7. At one time MS reported no further updates, so I cheched out the Avast intrface, and looked at WIFI INSPECTOR , to find a problem with a patch missing- th one designed to keep WannaCry out. KB4012212 AND ALSO kb4012215.

Released in March 2017, my update check had not found these missing.

SO- f you're running W7, then it might be worth looking in udates for KB4012212 OR KB4012215 and if not present, then go to microsoft.com and download.

Having had the second install/update go mad & lock up, I've been installing updates in smaller numbers, but looking to get 4012212 in as early as possible. I've found that once SP1 & 890830 ARE INSTALLED, THEN 4012212 installs easily.

I've found W10 updates to be an utter and complete PITA. So I'm not shocked you are sticking with 7.

One of the main reasons I'll be upgrading in the new year is to deal with the evening shutdown that is Windows Update. Plus the background grinding of 25% CPU while the update process does something (probably mining bitcoin).
