How to remove Amundsen screen

Featured Replies

Now the weather has turned colder, my Amundsen screen has started vibrating whenever I accelerate from low revs or the road surface is less than perfect.  The slightest touch on the screen or its surround stops the vibration.  The unit is quite a loose fit in the dashboard so I'd like to pull it out to fit some padding to put an end to the noise.  The black surround prises off easily to reveal lots of white grease but no obvious fixings.  Hopefully, there's a picture below; I presume extraction tools to fit in the keyhole shaped slots and/or the slots above each knob are required.  What do I need?  Or is something missing?

Assuming it's still under warranty I'd be taking back to the dealer for them to fix or replace the unit entirely rather than messing about trying to pad it myself. It shouldn't be a loose fit in the dashboard in the first place...

Fair enough.  I'm confident that I can fix it if someone can help me about the extraction tool and I don't want the inconvenience of a dealer visit.

If you do it yourself and something does not go right the dealer will be charging a lot of money to put right.

Did you find a guide to remove it? I’ve got a vibration, and now you’ve mentioned it, this may be it.

No, I never did. In fact, I replaced the car a few weeks later for another Superb which, I'm pleased to say, is totally rattle free to this day.

Was it around about the 2000rpm stage it rattled?

Pretty sure they all get removed in the same fashion, namely four removal keys around the edge as per this guide:

Thereabouts IIRC, it would happen quite often. The screen was a really loose fit in the dash as if there was some padding missing.

All 4 at the same time needed?

I've only had my screen out once but I'm pretty sure I used all four at once.

It's probably possible with two as long as it doesn't reclip in ;)
