Sport mode never worked

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2013 Octavia VRS . I just realised that I don't think the sport mode has ever worked.  I don't notice any noise change or performance change from economy to sport mode.  The engine does not growl through a speaker nor is the power or fuel spec any difference when switching through the modes

is this likely to be a software issue?

or is this a factory problem ?

Manual or DSG?

Sport mode in DSG will hold the revs noticeably higher.

Yours from new, or 2nd hand?

The sound actuator *could* have been disabled by a previous owner if preowned...

My first thought too.  It was one of the first things I did in my Leon FR; so did a lot of other Leon owners. I imagine it was the same elsewhere for VW and Skoda too.

Did the early vRS models come with the sound generator?

I think they were introduced with the MQB chassis (?)

yes it was available on all O3's I think but it was an option for me when ordering.

In terms of the engine, Sport mode doesnt give you performance or fuel economy modifications.

It only changes the linearisation of the Accelerator pedal (in sport mode you press less to reach full-load, in eco you have to press further to get the same request).

It makes it "feel" more sporty because a tiny press of the Accelerator gives you a jump in torque request from the engine.

But basically if you put your foot on the floor, you will have the same acceleration in sport & eco mode.

Steering should get heavier in Sport as well.

I switched my Scout into economy the other day when low on fuel.   I forgot to change back and the following day I thought there was an an issue with the car.

You should notice a difference between the two

I don't notice any sound difference in mine but definitely a change in steering and throttle response in sport mode

I think my sound generator has packed up.

Do you have access to VCDS or OBDEleven? You can do a test on the module which makes a sound. Guess it would fail this test if it's dead.

No, I’ve never bothered. Too close to my previous day job to be playing around with parameters in my spare time
