How to explain "non-factory wishbone bushes" to insurer

Featured Replies

Ok, so I want to fit two Audi TT wishbone bushes to my Octavia. Before I do, I want to check with my car insurance company if I can go ahead on my current policy but every time I enquire about a mod they do not know what I am talking about. Last time I enquired about having an anti rollbar fitted, they thought I was on about an anti rollcage so I gave up. At least this time they know the bushes it will be part of a suspension change so it is a start.

If anyone can give me advice on this then it would be very appreciated, as I do not want to end up with a headache having trying to explain what a wishbone bush & get nowhere.,

I know your trying to cover your arse but the fact that they don't know what an anti roll bar is or the likes of a wishbone bush is, is because nobody in their right mind would tell their insurance about it, its a bush that does the exact same job as the old one and looks like a bush, just like the old one.

If you really have to tell them, just tell them its a suspension upgrade and then bend over for a reaming.

Been here....

easiest way to say it is you have fitted replacements for the cars original parts, but they are tougher & stronger & will last longer....

That's what I did when I installed superpro...they fit without modification, & are better quality....

They only get iffy when you lower the car...& have to modify eg cut/weld etc..

I had great fun with the 288mm to 312mm front brake upgrade....just stated that if I had ordered the DCC (magnetic dampers) my car would have come with the 312mm brakes......"did you use oem parts"..er yes but superior quality discs & pads, .. "did a VW garage fit it"...no me , but I have the VW specs & I write VW tech guides on forums...& the parts bloke & mechanics at my dealer know I know their job....."oh ok then"....plus I fitted these as the car is seriously underbraked & have cooked the pads & have never done that in a car before so this is a safety upgrade..."right that's fine with us"...

fabdavrav- I'll bet they didn't lower the premium though.  I had a similar problem on an old Victor 2000. Previous owner had fitted a Ventura ( the 3300 model) servo and master cylinder.
