Lost reverse/1st/2nd gears 2ltr TDi

Featured Replies

Hi All, just nipped out to the shops and couldn't get 1st gear (seemed like 3rd !) so had to ride the clutch as I was nearly there, then I found out I couldn't get reverse ! so pushed it back and had to slowly ride the clutch back home in what seemed like 3rd gear as I couldn't get 2nd either. I am suspecting the cables from the gear lever ? I am just about to go out and start stripping parts out and investigate and hopefully it's not the gearbox. Cheers Stuart

Hi All, Found it  after taking off all the air intake pipes etc to get to it, one of the cables has popped off on the top joint and pushing it back on gives me back my gears ! trouble is whats missing that must holds it in place ? if its a clip and I find it on the under tray can I reuse it or do I need some new parts ? see pics

Does it feel loose?  Probably some sort of locking clip and maybe a retaining plate if the other one is the same. Defn check undertray.  I'd call or go into a dealer edit: Parts Desk or TPS and ask for the assembly part detail to determine what you need.  I don't have a manual car, someone else could take a photo for you of that linkeage..

Seems plastics age, old ones made only from metal ... Seems the pin on relay lever is worn out ... I would drill it through, one bolt, proper washer and nut and it must work so ;)

There is no clip, that one, 1K0711522 goes not there
