4x4 power loss and gear change

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 Octavia 4x4 with 29k on it, I've had it from new and its just coming up for its 2nd service. It suffers from power loss when changing up at full throttle at high revs. It feels as if the turbo is stopping and starting again which seems unlikely at 6000rpm. I've had other turbo cars so know what lag is. Also the gear change from 1st up to 2nd is mostly cr*p :thumbdwn: , but changes down are no problem. Just wondered if there was anything particular I could ask about during service as I've previously been told everything is ok. Sorry if this seems like a repeat but I'm new at this and think I posted last time in the wrong place!

Not really, some people seem to have the same problems and others not, so therefore there must be a difference between the cars. This is what I was trying to find out preferably before going to the garage so that I could give them something to look for. If a fuel pump gives no fault code do you think they would look for it? Sorry if this appeared a repeat but as it didn't come up on the Octavia forum site I thought I'd try again. After checking out various insurance co.s re a remap I think I'll get rid of it anyway and get a Toyota Supra twin turbo - cheaper to insure and a hell of a lot quicker!

All I will say if you havent tried a Supra try one before you go any further, Ive run against quite a few on the cannonball including 700 + bhp ones. They are useless if you introduce corners & they all seemed to have a lot more turbo lag than my

4x4 with just a Jabba remap(225 bhp) KW Suspension & decent brakes. On one mountain section I was tailing a Supra & was having to lift off after accelerating to save hitting the back of it.

I would suggest if you can take your car to a decent tuner & get them to sort it for you

Yeah thanks I'll try to sort a visit to someone decent soon. The Supra was only a joke really. Have you seen the prices people want for the things? Rather buy a R32.

Supras are great if all you are into is straight line stuff , the Engines are bullet proof & can be tuned massivly & yet still stay reliable, they just "dont do bends"

There are quite a few around that have been tuned to give 200 + top speeds

and I nearly forgot, In the wet SCARY !!

Back to the 4x4 - the power loss problem has just gone away! Which is great but I would still like to know why in case it comes back (its been like it since new). Only thing I've done is fill it with Tesco super just out of curiosity, but noticed no real difference over a whole tankful, but noticed no difference until refilled with ordinary unleaded. The only other difference is that its cold outside.
