Easiest way to get my ECU ID?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could help me out as I don't have any experience with this sort of thing.

I need to find out what my ECU ID is.

I have seen there are a number of cables and other devices which can be bought for diagnostic purposes, however I'm not sure which one I need.

They looked pretty cheap, so I thought it might work out better than taking it in to a garage for such a short job.

Ideally I'm after something that could just connect via Bluetooth and display the information on my phone.

The vehicle is a 2012 Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6TDI.

I don't want to perform any modifications to my own vehicle, I'm just after this one piece of information.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

What do you need to know and why?

your ecu will be edc17?

Hoping to get the emissions fix reversed.

Spoke to someone who claims to be able to do it, but had asked me for the ECU id. They said they'd need this to verify whether or not the update could be reversed.

Is the person not near enough that they can plug into your car and check if they can do it or not?

Best not let those looking for gaining experience use your car to get that, if you are then that should be for free and with an assurance they they will get things sorted if the balls it up.

There are a lot of people out there who claim to be able to do it, I just want to be sure that whoever I choose actually knows what they're doing.

I've been looking based on recommendations.

Unfortunately, it looks like this is going to mean a three hour round trip, so I'd rather know that it's possible beforehand.

There are people 'rolling back the fix' , maybe say were you are and someone that has had it done in your area can comment.

Perhaps you shouldn't get the "emissions fix" reversed?

Why?  It does not reduce emissions out on roads, maybe increases fuel consumption due to increased amount of regens, shortens hardware life,

and you just get some kind of VW Warranty for 24 months and they get let off by Governments for cheating with Defeat Devices and now not reducing emissions with the fix.

Pretty much this. We've had the car for the years, before that it belonged to my dad neither of us ever had any issues with it.

The fix was done in October and it's already had to go back twice because of warning lights coming on.
