tdi chipping?

Featured Replies

afternoon everyone. Im looking for advise please, im looking to get more grunt from my furby Tdi but having never really modified an engine before i dont really know what im looking for. lots of people are going on about jabbering there motor - are these guys the best around at the mo?

I dont want to go stupid just another 30 - 40 bhp and more torque really

any advise would be welcome

cheers mas

Hullo there

Nice to see another TDI owner here.

I'm booked in to Jabba on Dec 12th, probably the best way to get extra performance from the TDI engine. If you only want 30BHP, then perhaps a tuning box would be a cheaper way of doing it. If 50BHP extra sounds more your thing, then I can't recommend Jabbasport enough! :D

(oh, and torque goes up in ratio to the BHP, so 50% for BHP = 50% more torque)

(And I've never modified an engine either, but after you've been here a while, all kinds of strange things start happening. :D)

what sort of cost would i be looking at for both a tunning box and the full jabba 'treat'ment?!

(must admit 50% extra sounds wicked!)

In theory you wouldn't need both the chip and the tuning box - the tuning box overfuels the engine, while the chip controls the amount of fuel going to the engine, so chances are the presence of one would negate the need for the other...

Rob.

Jabba & tuning box - I believe I should step aside for a certain TDI owner who is running just that setup.

All I will say is his car goes like stink, but it also chucks out shedload of soot due to the tuning box, and during a recent ish 200mile+ run through Wales, I averaged 10mpg better than him, with both of us pushing the cars pretty much to the limit. That difference in mpg scared me a little, but with me just having the Jabba treatment, I hopefully will not chuck out (as much) soot like Matt's car does. (good smokescreen for BMWs to battle through though. :D)

Rob's interpretation is dead accurate - and I don't believe both are necessary. Jabba will tune my engine to achieve the best performance without damaging economy during regular driving (like I'm going to, once chipped, yeah?!)

I'm still trying to find out the exact cost of the Jabba TDI treatment, but I believe it's under

Mas

All I can say is JABBA JABBA JABBA

Its well worth it, they remap your car, most cars are slightly different so any tuning box etc is to suit all therefore will not give you the best

We had the Octavia done yesterday & it went from 110 to 162 bhp & 393 n/m of torque. ITS FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This all sounds good. looks like its the jabba option then for me - don't like the sound of the tunning box to much really - black soot and over fueling.

Stuart, was the L&K actually at 110 on the RR before Mike started, or was it higher thah that? IIRC, JayTee said that his was pushing 118 or 119 in standard mode before the remap.

Not sure as I didnt ask but I would guess it was probably more as most Skodas seem to be higher than quoted but its honestly like a different car.

As for smoking Im not sure, cant see anything during the day & it was raining last night when I went out for a play !!

Mine doesnt really smoke (as far as i can tell) with the tuning box disconnected.

Connected is another thing altogether and not really advisable as you are overiding the safety parameters of the chip. Thats why in the week its disconnected but the option is there for a bit more fun. :)
