EPC/loss of power last few days.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, have an issue with my car and need advice. Had the rear brake pads and discs changed the other day, I think this following issue is just coincidence but thought I should mention it.

The car feels like someone is applying the brakes rapidly, a form of juttering and loss of power through the car. The first 5 minutes are dreaful. Once the car had been driven for 5 minutes it gets better but it is still noticeable when the automatic gearbox shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. Tonight when I accelerated faster than normal the EPC light came on and the manual says that is an "Electronic Power Control" fault, I parked up for 5 minutes and when turning everything back on it was a pother again except 3rd to 4th gear.

Anyone have any ideas? It is an Octavia VRS MK2 2010 automatic.

Thanks for any replies!

Have had a further two quick trips, no EPC light now but the Exhaust control system light in yellow and flashing, still a loss of power and stutter from the car.

Just re-read the first post, a few grammatical errors!

So the brakes were changed but I had them inspected again today and they were assessed as perfect, in great condition and no issue with the fitting. It could be coincidence that the car has this issue a day after the brake discs and pads change. Also the weather has really got cold the last few days, could just be a coincidence too.

Car has the issue with power loss and juddering, I only noticed the EPC light the once, now though I am seeing the Exhaust control system light on all the time and it is flashing and in yellow. Hope this makes better sense, can't see where to edit the initial post :)

Loss of power and stutter through the car, both seem to be connected, so could be simply a coil broken down, the "stutter" being a missfire.

The EPC light refer's to the throttle pedal as it's all electronic i.e no cable, the light now gone off there maybe a fault code recorded, same with the EML being on. to be honest and to not cause any more faults, have the vehicle recovered to a main dealer or a good independant and have the fault codes read, even better if they VCDS (main dealer will have)

Sorry i can't be of any more help, and am hoping it's not a chain tensioner failed as it can be quite sudden

Bang on the money Julian!

It was a misfire in chamber 3 and the coil ignition part was at fault!

All sorted now (I hope)
