MK1 Vrs Towbars

Featured Replies

Hello people just looking for some advice.

I have been searching the net and most of the answer I’ve needed have come from here so thought I’d join.

Ive decided to get a tow bar for my mk1 Vrs, I’ve read a few times that we can’t tow with Vrs but we can with the other model Fabia’s.

My question is will a normals fabia towbar fit onto the Vrs. If so what one can I buy which will require minimal cutting to the bumper? I have seen a picture on google  of someone’s Vrs and haven’t had to cut it.

Ive just sold my van and purchased the car and should of checked before hand if I could use a tow bar but it’s to late now so going to take the risk, I’ll only be towing my MX bike once a month

any help would be great!

Thanks

IMHO its perfectly feasible to fit a towbar, you may have to be slightly creative as the VRS rear bumper is not the same shape as a normal bumper.

The only problem you may have is with type approval and fine print in your insurance.

If you are towing a small trailer with a motor-cross bike on I can;t believe it will be that stressful.

When I talked to the dealer their excuse was that SKODA were worried about DMF failures. Quite how that pans out when equivalent VW models use the same engine/gearbox/clutch combination I don;t know.

There are pluses and minuses to a swan neck type that you show. The main one being that you can typically get a removable version.

The minus point it is slightly less convenient to mount your electrics connector and if you want a stabiliser you have to use the type that bears on the ball.

This is not a bad place to start :-

My vrs has had a towbar fitted and removed by a previous owner. There is a cut out at the bottom of the bumper which I assume is because the vrs bumper sticks out a bit more than the standard models which the towbar was designed for

Im tempted to refit a towbar just for the sake of having something to protect the rear bumper a bit from car park idiots who crash into it.

If I remember correctly the vRS was never tested for towing, so technically it would be illegal to do so.

Saying I doubt there's a police man out there that knows that lol.

There will be some like ones that have owned Mk1 Fabia vRS or just been there when one was pulled.

Who does know is Insurance Loss Adjusters (if in an accident.) or Police Examiners even DVSA Inspectors, Insurance could and will be invalidated except for 3rd parties claiming.

so the issue is not that you can not fit a towbar,   just that Tow bar fitters can not fit one as they know the Regulations and the law.

then if one fitted it can not be for towing a trailer with.

Bike Racks can be fitted, just because EU Legislation & Regulations are rubbish.
