Rattle at idle

Featured Replies

I have a 2013 diesel Octavia estate 4x4 se and when the car is at idle there is a tractor like noise( yes i know its a diesel). It goes away if you press the accelerator peddle but comes back when you take your foot off. The noise is hard to describe, sort of a blow out in the exhaust sort of noise.

Anyone that this noise? Hopefully it's a loose heat shield or something

There was an issue for some with rattling fuel lines.

There was a very good post with pictures & instructions for a simple but effective repair placing some foam/felt pad behind the offending pipes.

I'll see if I can find it.

Could also be the vacuum pump.

do a short clip and share it via YouTube...maybe we will be able to help

I do hear very same rattle noise on my 2013 diesel Octavia estate DSG when engine is idling at 1000 RPM in "D" drive mode. If the revs drop to 750 RPM noise goes away. Same if the revs goes up. When the engine is cold I can't hear any noise at all.

Steveyboy, do you hear the rattle when engine is cold?

Yes seems to be when warmed up. Really starting to annoy me now

Mine has been doing this for about a year now, rattle on idle (only when warm, and doesn't do it all the time). Slightest blip of the throttle and it stops until the revs drop back down to idle. Had it checked out by a local indy and main dealer.... neither could find the cause.
