Just a quick question got a fab mk1 I my heater switch has suddenly stopped working apart from number 4 that works so does everything else any suggestions please 

The resistor has failed.

You have to remove the glovebox to access it.

 

Pull off dash end trim panel, remove 5 Torx screws from glovebox, drop glovebox and unplug *glovebox light and disconnect *glovebox cooler hose (*where fitted).

 

Resistor is a twist fit into the heater casing.

As TMB has posted already - this fault is usually caused by the resistor pack failing,on these cars it is probably mounted near the glove box area,sometimes a bit of a pain to change but not expensive to buy.I have not changed one on a fabia but have changed one on an 02 Polo - probably very similar.

Make sure the cabin filter is not blocked. This causes the resistor to fail as it stops it getting enough air flow to cool it.

We're is the cabin filter 

Passenger side footwell, in the bottom of the heater casing. You slide two clips to the middle and pull the cover off.

And then fiddle about for several minutes trying to get the new filter to sit just right in the frame, then think "which way round was this?" for a few seconds, then struggle for two minutes upside-down in the footwell trying to slide those bloody clips back out again without them derailing.

Edit, having said that, the guts of it might be transferrable with cunning?
