im trying to settle a debate with a mate about remapped Fabia vrs mk1.

 

Do you need to use more expensive fuel as in v power diesel and other more expensive fuels on a remapped car.

 

my argument is that diesel fuel doesn’t have octane?

 

ive looked through search and no diffinative answers.

 

Yes, you're right, you will find that some people scream about the Cetane value of 'special' fuels but frankly they mostly have more and better cleaning additives in them.

 

Cetane is really not relevant since the standard in this country is higher than many other countries the engine was designed to comply with, it doesn't add performance until you start trying to rev the engine much higher than standard with hairy cams and modded heads.

Exactly what I thought so a remapped car will run fine on normal not expensive cleaning fuel.

Absolutely, basically it's for precious gear fairies who must always have 'top of the range' stuff.

 

The petrol on the other hand is useful since it doesn't pink as much and allows the ECU to run a bit more ignition advance which actually increases torque.
